Brakes

Im looking at upgrading my front brakes on my 88 camaro, for about the same price i could get a C5 Corvette setup GM Parts House or a Baer setup from hawks. Is there any difference in performance or longevity, or is one better than the other? Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Lance

Re: Brakes

If you're worried about price, do the LS1 brake swap.

I got my LS1 calipers + carriers for $60 plus shipping on ebay
Bracket for $60 from big brake upgrade.com
rotors for $25 each
pads for $25 for both sides

Past that it's just a matter of cutting/tapping your spindle and turning down your hub, which will need to be done on any brake swap.

And if you're really wanting something that looks fancy pants, if you can get the LS1 caliper carriers, you can bolt C5 brake calipers directly onto the LS1 carriers with the LS1 rotor and it works fine.

Beyond that I suggest checking out bigbrakeupgrade.com , good service, good turnaround time, and if you can do the work yourself to save a ton of money, you can piece together a kit through them as full or as partial as you want.

I notice that you have a URE engine combo. I'm looking at importing one to Australia and just wondering what your thoughts were on the package you received.

Cheers

Will 16" rims clear the rotors and calibers? Or will you need get larger rims too.

Re: Brakes

Yes, must use a 16" wheel or larger.

There is also a dynalite kit for just under $700. Similar 4 piston caliper weighing in at 34lbs, with either 10.75 or 11 inch rotors. Complete kit. These require a wheel of at least 15" in diameter.

Re: Brakes

I was looking into upgrading to a 1LE setup as I wanted to maintain factory wheels. After consulting with Hawks, Bruce turned me on to the Baer Black label kit. I opted to have them modify a set of spindles, powder coat them, and send it all to me fully assembled. I am very pleased with the kit, as the wheel bearings/rotors are serviceable seperatle. I also opted for the stainless braided lines. Haven't installed the brakes yet, but they sure are pretty.
