Chip via mail

Has anybody had any luck with getting a tune by mail? NO ONE around me will tune any chipped car. They will mess with timing and that is about it. I have a ton of bolt on parts, but they are not in harmony. The car has alot of potential, but it isn't performing with the stock chip. I have tried hypertechs but they do nothing in my opinion. Thanks...all advice is good advice.. Usually

Re: Chip via mail

I sent an email to TBIChips.. I will post what they say. Here is the email...

HI, I have heard good things about your work through Thirdgen.org. I have a 1989 Pontiac GTA with an L98 350 Chevy, original to the car. I have added alot of bolt ons, but the car does not perform as it should due to the chip. (I assume) I will list what i have done, and if you think you can be of service let me know. I have also attached a picture and my best time slip so far. I am car # 5 on the time slip. Thanks, Andy

Re: Chip via mail

Bone stock it was mid to high 14s. And with all those mods your only looking for 14 flat?

I'd expect low 13s after all that, but how is your tranny? Bone stock/192k miles? Stock besides the converter? I'd tighten up tranny, as well as chip the engine.

Re: Chip via mail

LOL, yea, I was actually thinking 13.5, but didn't want to sound unreal...people will flog you for that on here. I bought a shift kit, but haven't had it installed yet, not sure if it is worth it. I got a reply from TBIChips, here is their email to me....

That time slip is about what I would expect for L98 with that list of modifications and that engine mileage (at least speed wise). Your 60ft times should be better with that list of mods but I haven’t been there at the track to watch it launch. I would disconnect the front sway bar from the lower control arms at the track too since your running such a skinny tire it needs all the help it can get. Your loosing and easy 3 tenths there currently. Typically with a stage 2 chip you should see around a .3 second gain at the track. Sometimes a bit more but with that much mileage on the motor, I doubt it. Talk to Herb http://cgi.ebay.com/1992-Camaro-Vett...item45f8319311 (281) 546-6232 hlgper@comcast.net and price a nice forged 383 but use http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-5089/ heads and then for streetability, I would run http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HOTCA...item27b8b318c9 but for the best track times you have enough gear and stall to run http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Small...item27b8c20cca and you should be able to run car 121’s time slip. You would need to change to http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FIC-B...item19c31d723b injectors with the chip tuned for that setup.

Yea, I agree, Brian seems like a straight shooter. I think I am going to try them out. As no one around me does it, there isn't much choice. I will keep everyone posted with the results. Thanks!
