Better heads than Vortec

Are there any aftermarket heads that are better than the GM Performance Vortec heads for near the same price ?

Re: Better heads than Vortec

Prob not. Thats why there so popular and everyone uses them. I'm sure if there was a better head for the price, everyone would be using that. I had trick flows on my engine, which are amazing heads, but not cheap. If your going for budget, I'd say vortec is the way to go.

Re: Better heads than Vortec

The problem with Vortec heads, is that they require a specific type of intake to fit them. So if you ever wanna change heads, the intake has to be changed too.

So when you figure the head cost, add in the cost of the intake too & see what the resulting price is, compared to just heads that will fit the intake you already have.

Re: Better heads than Vortec

Yeah, I know about that too....

Ok, then I guess my question is are there heads that produce the power Like Vortec heads that would use a standard(not stock but same fitment) intake ?

Pace has them listed complete at $700 each.

I got my set of completed Dart Pro1P 200s for $1200.

All depends on how fast you want to go. And that also depends on how much money you want to spend.

For $1249 plus shipping you can get AFRs. Here's the link to the classifieds section.

Re: Better heads than Vortec

For TPI use the available intakes have recieved such bad reviews that I decided to sell my Vortecs. The cost of machining for higher valve lift and screw in studs also added to the cost. I'm favorably impressed with the Dart S/S for stock style replacements. According to a "Chevy High Performance" test the vortec version of this head was almost equal to the factory Vortec. They sell a 1987-92 stock style version of this head for around $800.
Best of Luck!

Re: Better heads than Vortec

you are better off buying a dedicated vortec intake because the vortec heads have a taller intake port
