What cam with vortec heads?

I have a 350 with vortec 906 heads modified for .550'' lift, The motor is 9.4:1 static compression, I have a tci streetfighter stall converter (3000-3500) 750 holley vaccum secondary carb, and an edelbrock air gap intake. The rear has 3.73 gears. I put my specs into camquest and the xe284 cam came up under "great fit." This car is not my daily driver, Im not really worried about streetability. More so interested in getting the most power on a budget. What do you guys think?

Re: What cam with vortec heads?

If you are running basically a stock block, I would go with an xe274. It will drop your peak hp from 6000rpm to 5500 rpm. Easier on the block and better street/strip range. Matches up better with vortecs

Re: What cam with vortec heads?

the 274 is a great cam for them, i also like the gm hotcam. we're running the xe288hr in a friend's car and its pretty bitchin, peaks at about 6K and we've been beating the **** out of it like that for about 3 years now with no problems

Re: What cam with vortec heads?

thanks for the suggestions fellas, upon more research Ive found many complaints about valvetrain noise and premature lobe wear with the XE series cams. Anyone running a lunati voodoo cam?

Re: What cam with vortec heads?

ive never run into problems with the XE cams. but premature lobe wear can easily happen to any cam if you dont use the proper break in oil with lots of ZDDP if its a flat tappet cam.

Re: What cam with vortec heads?

I ended up calling lunati's tech line, he recommended 3 different cams for my combo. the first was the lunati 60104 which he said would lay down the highest numbers on the dyno, The 60103 which would be a little more streetable, and the 07102 which he said will make higher torque all the way accross the curve and was more likely to would put me down the track the fastest. He seemed to think that one was the best pick, so I ordered one. As soon as I get my motor back together Ill let you guys know what kind of times I see. Thanks again!!
