It’s really sad to see that a most popular all American tool is now made in China. I guess DeWitt Nebraska could never compete with a country that has no environmental regulation, practically non existent labor laws, and an endless supply of cheap labor. I am glad I have a good supply of USA made original Vise-grips because I will never buy another new pair!

I'm not one to complain, but if I can help it I'll never make any substantial purchase of something from China. There is Zero, and I mean Zero quality control. They send the most inferior stuff over because we (Americans) buy it and put up with it. If Snap On Tools or Craftsman put out an inferior product we would have the managers hanging from the nearest light pole. I don't see why we put up with it from China. They're stuff has even killed people. They use assembly lines for a peanut product one day and then switch over to vitamins without cleaning the damn thing and then some person in the USA with peanut allergies dies. Search the internet and see what they've done by importing contaminated sheetrock stamped with a counterfeit "Made in America" Brand. Or the counterfeit airplane parts... The list goes on and on. And I would argue that this is ThirdGen related due to all of the bogus parts they've flooded the market with.

I think the USA needs to start making all our products in house, by that I mean all made in the USA, and with USA made parts, not China parts assembled in USA.

Also, are you saying ALL vise grips are made there, even by Craftsman and Snap-On. Are they sending their work out?

I happened to be in Ace hardware later that day and was investigating to see if it was true and sure enough; it was. You can still get USA vise-grips but they are being replaced by the Chinese ones as they are sold off. Check the package.

I know companies need to make a profit, but seriously. How much are they saving and how much pride are they loosing? I would rather pay a few dollars more and get a USA tool are part instead of buying slave labor.

 

Well, I guess I'm going to pick up a few sets then before they run out. Ill probably pick up 2 of each size all depending on how many sizes there are. This sucks but what are we going to do....nothing.

hey guys, i agree with you 100%, i am from canada and i buy everything i can from here, but i also buy american when i can too, the vehicles i drive are all american , i play bass guitar and it's a fender from the usa etc ...i think because canada and the usa are neighbors we should help eachother's economy...having said that , everything is made in china today...unfortunately...walmart is a huge contributor of this, everything they sell is from china , just look....but in the end people want to save money and they will buy a cheaper product because of the almighty dollar...sad.

 

+1, it IS sad to see people will buy another product just because its cheaper, rather than because the more expensive one is of better quality.

Plus take in the fact 90% (Statistics from myself) don't realize that China doesn't have laws on well made products, they don't have a limit, if its made they send it out, no matter what. It actually kind of sickens me we rather save money than to buy a better product.

Yep, its our own fault.We as americans want lower prices & the only way manufacturers can comply is by moving production overseas.Since we refuse to work for meger wages or take pay cuts & CEOs sure as hell wont.This is what you end up with.You cant have your cake & eat it too!Eventually people will grow tired of watching our money go to other countries.

you are partially right there. i dont care how much 50 top ceo's make - its the 1 million uaw workers making twice what the other ones that bother me. heck if 50 ceo's make 10 million a year that is 500,000.00 a year.
1 million uaw workers making 72 an hour is $72,000,000 AN HOUR, OR $2,880,000,000 (that is billion) a WEEK or $149,760,000,000 (again its billion) a year. and workers get to go home at night and sleep, owners have to worry about paying those workers the next day, and keeping the stockholders, most not very big, happy and getting something for their investment.
if you want American workers to make money - all of them - cut the tax down to 10% at point of sale. that way rich people who buy anything - they pay. buy a big boat with 20,000,000 - 10%. by cars 10%. by a big house 10%. those of us who are poor - we dont buy as much and once again the rich get to pay most of the tax.
or how about this - stimulate the heck out of the economy - no federal taxes on anything for one year - not on income, alcohol, tobacco, imports, GAS products, nothing at all.

 

That's not entirely accurate. Americans want a liveable wage. Corporations want profits. They don't necessarily want to share their profits with the American worker. Americans want fair pricing and fair wages. Corporations want low overhead, low wages, no benefits, but high profits. You make it sound as if the American people demand low prices so the corporations are forced to look elsewhere for cheap labor. Thats like saying, "It rained because the pavement was wet".

 

I wonder where could a corporation find these low overhead,low wages,no benefits places.Never said anything about employers sharing/not sharing profits with the american worker!

 

i say our bad economy comes from people buying from stores such as wallmart and what not i work as a local small store computer sales and repair and its so hard to compete with walmart buying huge amounts of computers and being able to sell them so cheap we dont see barley enough of our towns money to keep the store open so every one buys from walmart but our town doesnt see a dime of that money think about it if u buy from a local store the money goes back to the store plus the stores workers then the workers turn around and buy from another local store and the money cirulates keeping the town going instead of sending our money somewhere else helping employ the foregn companys

 

I was just pointing out that GREED is what has been driving American corporations. And it's worked for them. They go to China because they don't have to worry about wages, benefits, human rights, enviroment, lawsuits. It's why we're in this mess. This recession was totally provoked. I don't know how to keep this 3rd gen related.

So, for this thread to continue it needs to go back to, basically if you know Brand X vise grips are still make in America, or Brand Y is made in China but really rocks...or some kind of on topic review of the vise grips as the thread was started.

I try to buy all american parts. But sometimes I cant help myself . and buy tolls at princess auto. they must have a good asian supplyer. Because i only have ever had to return one thing and they gave my money back 15 month's after I bought it.
