Re: Dash Cap
I had a dash cap from Accuform for a while. It looked great and I was pleased with it. Unfortunately after sitting in the car in the heat it buckled and warped at the windshield. Heat damage was the one thing that wasn't warranty. This one looks to be made of similar materials so I'd be afraid it would do the same thing.

Re: Dash Cap
Hi, wanted to chime in, as I'm a 1AAuto employee. The part you see there is from accuform. I'll let others leave feedback (as I don't want to be seen as too bias), but we do seem to sell a lot of these with very few issues. These caps are very thin, and our rep over there has stated high temps combined with direct sunlight can cause warping, but only in rare cases.

If they are made of a molded abs plastic, it doesn't take much heat to "shape" that material....I do it with a heat gun all the time...can't imagine in a locked car during the peak of summer.

Re: Dash Cap
A buddy of mine had one of these in his old '82 TA. I never really cared for the look of them, and it really doesn't take much direct sunlight and heat to get them starting to warp. After one high desert summer, my friend's was garbage, he then found a replacement dash for roughly the same price and never had another issue. I would recomend finding a new dash (they are on e-bay frequently around $100), than adding one of those $25 dash mats from a place like autozone or kragen if you're concerned with sun damage. Just my though.

Use a sun shade. When you compare the ammount of time you drive in the sun vs the time your car SITS in the sun, a windshield shade makes sense. No ugly dash mat needed...unless you're covering up previous damage.

Re: Dash Cap
But that would take all of the fun out of trying to hold a dash mat in place while you doing 70 down the highway with the windows down!
To somewhat stay on the original subject this brings to mind another issue my friend had with his plastic cover. When we would drive windows down at highway speeds, the things would catch wind and vibrate. It wasn't a quiet one either, very loud and irritating bouncing off of the dash pad.
