Hypertech vs. Fastchip vs. Jet

I want to get a new chip for my '90 Iroc, TPI 305 5spd. I don't know what to get, Hypertech Thermomaster, Fastchip Stage 2, or Jet Stage 2. Hypertech seems to be the most popular, but people have also said they hate hypertech. Fastchip programs at all throttle positions, where as hypertech only at WOT. And Jet seems like a good chip too. I'm looking for people who have experienced any of these, and their reactions. Thanks for all the help.

Well I just got the JET Chip Stage 2 and installed that yesterday and noticed a pretty big difference. This is the one thing to look for as well when you decide on a chip; is it a smog legal chip? Cause the JET's are. I really like it when I gun the accelerator that car really shows me more nuts. I'm very pleased and only paid $115 from Summit Racing for it. By the way Hypertech chips are pieces of junks. WHen my dad and I went to install the chip in my moms Blazer we had to go through 2 chips b/c the 1st 2 were defective and we said screw and went w/ the JET 6 pack and have been happy ever since. My thoughts

Nothing beats your own custom chip...especially one you burn yourself. Read Traxion's article on PROM Burning and check out ALL the links he provides.

Also, scope out the PROM Board and set you "Show Topics" to as old as possible (top right corner of the board) and start reading all posts from the oldest to most recent. Burning your own PROM is not quite as hard as you may think (mechanically), but it does involve a certain amount of experimentation to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Also, if you continue to mod your car, the equipment will quickly pay for itself and you'll be much wiser for it. It also will REALLY teach you a lot of about your car and engine. You will quickly learn "what is fact and what is fiction". I see many posts that contain a lot of myths/fiction about what is truly happening inside their motor. You'd be surprised how some relatively insignificant mods have a serious effect on your ECM (like changing gears with an automatic).

Lastly, imagine the personal satisfaction you will have when people ask you about your car and you say "And I burnt my own chip".

I don't really think that being smog legal would be a problem, considering it takes less than 20 min to pull the chip out and throw your stock one back in.

I have a jet in my trans am, and my friend has a hypertech in his camaro, and i think that the hypertech is way better. The jet doesnt do much in the way of shift points, but the hypertech does require a fan switch and a 165* thermostat. but id still go with hypertech

Ive had all three chips and Ill give you the low-down on them. I now have a Fastchip custom chip that I think works the best of the three. I first had a hypertech chip and I thought it sucked. I dident notice anything and my speed limiter was still the same. Then I got a Jet stage 2 chip and noticed a better difference than the Hypertech plus the Jet chip moved my speed limiter from 115 to 130 mph. Just my .02
