B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

Ok I installed the B&M megashifter on my car a few months ago while the rest of my project was completed. First off. Pretty disappointed with the instructions. But I got it installed. At first the shifter was real hard to shift. But eventually started loosing up. It was routed exactly how they wanted it(looped around the top). Then about a week after driving the car the paint started coming off the highlighted B&M and the T handle. Then a week after that the car wouldn't shift at all. Put it up in the air and it looks like the cable was crushed. It wasn't near anything to get crushed!! It even looked crushed were it goes from shifter to grommet. So in conclusion I feel the shifter is of poor quality. I will now be pulling it out to return back to stock. So if your in the market for a new shifter.. Do some looking around and think twice.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

From all of the reading I've done on the Megashifter (I wanted one for a long time) I've found that almost all of the problems are with that cable that's too freaking long. A few people have ordered a proper-length cable from B&M and dropped a few dollars extra to get one of their good shift cables, and have had flawless performance from the shifter since.

Don't remember the right size though, but the threads are still on here somewhere.

i've been running the 5 foot cable for years with no issues, you probably had it binding from too sharp a turn into the floorpan, etc.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

problem is in the install, you know you need to loop the cable around the bellhousing right??? and you cant have that cable to tight also, it takes time to install and adjust it right and that can make one , but once properly set up, a B&M Megashifter is great, and make an auto fun to drive... you couldnt get me to get rid of mine

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

have had mine on my car for 2 yrs... works great, never had a prob... except the damn relay/fuse they tell u to buy... from radio shack... i blew that thing twice and at 11$ a pop thats anoying not to mention it also stranded me twice, i put a 30A relay in and havent had a prob. but somehow when i took the console off... i musta shorted the indicator cable that tells u wat gear your in bc i saw a puff of smoke and the cable is melted in the hard plastic tube... had to just take it out completely... frozen in there lol. no paint chipping off except the handle has been worn after 2 yrs

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

9 years shifted manually the whole time. No problems. Used the race cable from the start. Best shifter for youy money. You can use it forward, reverse pattern and even use it for an overdrive trans.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

I have had my fair share of problems with my megashifter. I looped the cable kind of off to the side and it's worked fine there, but my shift indicator cable binded up and I can't seem to correct it. Also, the T-Handle wouldn't stay tight, even with some thread locker. I ended up stripping the threads on it trying to overtighten it.(It's made of pretty soft aluminum I think). I ended up just boring a hole through the T-Handle and shifter itself and tapping a new thread so it runs perpendicular to the handle and shifter. I don't anticipate any more problems with that but damn, these types of problems shouldn't be on a $200 shifter.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

I've had the MagaShifter installed for about a year now and it was a little tight at first but works fine after a little use. No problems so far. Love the rachet shift when I want to manuel shift it. Got a couple of buddies that installed it on their ride and works about the same as mine. Must be the way it is installed.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

My brothers indicator is broken, it is hard to shift (stock cable).

My buddy's indicator is broken as well, shifts smooth with B&M's 5ft cable.

I plan to buy a megashifter myself. Already have B&M's 5ft cable. I just hope my indicator works...haha.

There is also Hursts V-Matic....looks good but havent seen any reviews...but nor have I looked.

Re: B&M Megashifter.. Two thumbs down.

Mine works great it was a PITA to put in being my car was converted from manual to auto but i've had no problems. My buddies car would shift from P to 1st right but a simple cable adjustment fixed that
