Summit Racing branded parts

Is the quality of summit brand engine parts up to par with other well known auto part brands?

Any feedback will be helpful.
Thanks,
Joey

most often times summit brand parts are from major brands but packaged in different boxes

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

I am planning on rebuilding my 305. If I use a summit valvetrain and intake instead of a comp cams xtreme energy grind and an edelbrock performer, I should be ok?

I am on an extremely limited budget so any money saved is helpful to me.
I am also planning on using World Products S/R Torquer Heads with 58cc chambers. any feedback on those?

Thanks for your help,
Joey

If your short on money, look for used parts. Or just wait until you can afford the good stuff.

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

i remember reading an article in one of the summit mag's about "Summit's" brand. They were explaining that they would not put their name on a cheaply made product because that could ruin their reputation. So i would assume that their brand is of good quality. If you notice a lot of their brand stuff looks similar to other top quality brand items. i bought a summit muffler from them once, looks exactly like a flowmaster, installed... sounded just like a flowmaster for $32 bucks compared to the flowmasters $80.

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

If your on a budget, Summit is the way to go. Their products hold up well. The only time you would need to spend outragous amounts of money is if your planning on doing all out racing. They wouldn't waste time making their products if they didn't meet certain standards. I've rebuilt 3 motors using all Summit stuff with no problems 80,000 miles down the road for 1 engine. Still runs perfect! So, I recommend.

Just ordered the Summit "Vortec" heads, they have better specs than gmpp vortecs at half the price fully assembled.

I Installed two of the Summit Branded ring and pinion sets in my Suburban. So far so good, I'll need to get back to you once I change out the breakin oil.

Made in India, metal seemed softer than normal.

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

the only problem i've had with summit stuff is i put a cam in my motor once and it wiped a lobe right off of it in about 100 miles but that could've been anything. everything else i've used has been great. i just got one of there ignition kits (box is made by mallory) for my 406 drag motor and it works great. i'd always be confident in their parts

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

Their Pro Star knock offs are really close to the real thing and surprisingly light for being a 1 piece rim. My buddy has them mounted on his Buick for his street tires and look just like the real Welds that he has his slicks on. You just cant beat the price.

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

i bought some stuff from them also, here and there. the most recent thing i bought were tie rod ends, cheaper than all the other ones, but looked just like em. wouldnt be able to tell them apart from moog or any other. and so far theyve been holdin up very very well

summit brand's are good in my book. same thing with ordering stuff from them no matter what brand

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

I needed tools quick, so i bought from them, it was the cheapest crap ive ever seen. Complete garbage, then got a job at Snap-On and thats all i have now. Their parts are up to par though. Great stuff. Saves money when money isnt there. But i do enjoy the brand names

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

I'd have to agree with cmgrinn, I rebuilt my 350 using all summit parts and never had a problem. Summit parts are definately great for budget builds!

Re: Summit Racing branded parts

I have never had a reliability problem with any of the summit brand parts I have bought, but I did send back a set of thier aluminum roller rockers, they were the really cheap ones and weighed a metric ton, they also would not clear a big valve spring without significant grinding. So I just exchanged them for harland sharp. They have excellent customer service. I just recently bought a summit 140 gph electric fuel pump to replace my holley 110(blue) and the summit pump is not nearly as loud and works well.
I have had a billion problems with used parts though, used parts are great if you pay very close attention to what you are buying. It only takes one junk used part to wipe out any savings of many other good used parts.

I live 25 minutes away from the Tallmadge, Ohio retail store. I know quite a few people that work there and they all tell me the same thing: Summit brand produtcts are mostly brand name products bearing the Summit name. I have used many of thier parts in my car and all have worked out great.

I also am just finishing up installing a set of World Products 305 heads on my LO3. I will let you know how they are once I get it on the road. Probably sometime this weekend.

This is still the case, I bought a Summit Cam/Lifter/Springs/Retainers for $150 and the card said Crane Camshafts in the lower left hand corner. Half the price for the same thing, you decide
