Sylvania Silverstar - sealed beam units
just replaced both headlight bulbs tonight, one went out and figured the other one wasnt far behind. They were probably origional for all I know, they were called "Guide" halogen.
I decided to throw in the few extra bucks and try the Silverstars. Autozone had them for $20 a side.
Now let me say this. I have known a few people that have used the silverstars in newer cars with the replacable bulbs and stock housings. They are really nice. They dont look yellow at all like a regular halogen. They look - not quite blue - but definately crystal white.
I was skeptical about how good they would work in a sealed beam application though... When I got the first one in, I turned the headlights on to be dissapointed. It was slightly brighter looking, but almost as yellow as the stock halogen. So, the silverstars for these cars definately do not look blue or anything from the front.
However, with them both in, it is amazing the difference. Even though they appear yellow head on, the light they cast on the road is not yellow at all. In fact, it is like daylight. They definately were not lying when they said they were equivalent to a 4000k color temp.
It is mind blowing, the difference that it makes driving at night. Every street sign pops out at you. The road is the same color as daytime. You can see quite a bit farther. The high-beams are nice too.
So basically, I recommend these to anybody that wants a small headlight upgrade, without the hassle of an HID conversion, or the non-stock look. If I had to do it over again, I would in a heartbeat. Best $40 I spent on the car yet!

But the camaro sealed beams are like 1/2 the size, and a totally different lens. Also, dont you have seperate hi-lo bulbs?
Either way, they are nice.

Well, maybe "yellow" is a bad word. What I should say, is that they dont appear to have and "blue" or "purple" color like those ebay fake HID bulbs do. I would be willing to hazzard a guess that they are brighter though...

I have them on my 92. They are the best you can buy off the shelf and perfect for someone who is not looking to spend a small fortune on headlights. I would consider them the minimum replacement for any car.

Re: Sylvania Silverstar - sealed beam units
In a related application I have been running these in my DD Nissan Pickup for a while. The only negative aspects that I can see are that when driving in the rain the bulbs do not last very long. This has happened to me with several pairs of these headlights. My theory is that the bulb burns so hot that the rate at which the rain cools down the sealed beam lens is detrimental to their longevity. Now I have them in my F-150 (non sealed beam) and they work like a charm, never had any issues with them burning out prematurely. -Bob

4K range is rated to simulate daylight.Or in other words no color(other than white).6k rated lamps(HIDs) would start to show a hint of blue(head on).If you want the most illumination, then you'ld want the least color. The darker or more color(blue, purple, etc). The less light you'll see.Since dark colors blend in better with the night.Thereby giving off less illumination on the road.

Re: Sylvania Silverstar - sealed beam units
Well they are definately not as bright as HID, and they still shine in the same headlight beams like any other halogen, they dont have that illumination zone and cutoff line like good projectors.
But I still think they are awesome for what they are (O.E.M replacement, no mods).
The thing that I notice the most about it is, less eyestrain driving. Everything is easier to see. And the street signs jump out at you. I almost have trouble reading the street signs though, because the reflective paint is so illuminated now.
I bet if you were to upgrade to projector housings that replace the sealed beam units, and then get some of the silverstar ultra's, that would be sweet.
