headlight conversion I need help please..
I just bought the HID head light conversion kit for my car but I am unsure of what wires I connect to the harness. I looked at the original headlight plug and there are more wires then the new harness.
well let me start over I have a 86 camaro and I want to change them over to HID but I am afraid to cut any wires. the kit that came with the HID set up has 3 wires not like the original headlight wiring that has like 4 or 5. anyone that knows how to do this please help. I am way out of my league here. I can wire everything else but head lights. sad I know but I dont wanna mess anything up.

umm not sure but i have H4 upgraded HID bulbs and replacement lenses... on my firebird formula 350 i have a plug with three wires... maybe u got the wrong kit and it was made for firebirds... i kno 86 to 82 had 2 wire headlights.
look at the kit and if it comes with a wireing diagram... match it to the stock wireing manual... and get it to work

Re: headlight conversion I need help please..
I have successfully installed them on my own, thanks to my father. Yeah it took some time but they are working very well. I went from a enclosed light 3 pole to a H4 HID kits.
I still have the original wiring set up (factory) plugs in it still I didnt need the wiring harness. My father and I did some process of elimination. I found a wiring display on the net on what wires do what. so I showed m father the diagram and he and I cut some wires and now my H4 HID's work great and I ran the city lights on a switch.
Note of warning for anyone with an 86 camaro I will tell you this but this only happen to me but I dont know what others look like but when I went to put in my HID lights I had to take the whole housing out and cut the back a little to get the headlight in cause it had a pretty thick rubber piece on the back of the light that protected the light from water and other stuff.
On my camaro I cut the green wires on the original wiring harnes.
( I do not really recommend doing it your self, get them installed professionally) I will post up the diagram of the head light wiring that I found. again I really dont recommend doing it your self unless you have the proper tools and diagram.
I messed up installing them, by leaving the lights on and I crossed a wire and blew out one of my high beams so I had to run out and get a new one. but really I dont need my highs as much anymore. besides they look a whole lot better.

That price is for a pair of adapters. But you can just make a bunch of jumper wires. Then plug them in accordingly

on a fuel injected engine, if your pressing the accelerator while/before starting it puts the system in to clear flood mode which will make it run overly lean of course. so don't listen to the above no offense meant.
check your fp at the rail then you'll know your problem.

[quote=flaming-ford;3622356]that works on a carb not fuel injection...... Fuel injection that does the opposite of what you want.

In my previous posts on this thread I have a link on where to buy them, and also on how wire them up if you want to do it yourself.

Re: headlight conversion I need help please..
So I am looking at getting an H4 conversion for my 87 Z28. All I need to buy is the housing to accept an H4 bulb and the H4 adapter for 165mm sealed beam headlights? Will I need to upgrade wiring or anything of that nature? If I go the HID route with an HID conversion kit will that adapter and stock wiring handle that or will my car just burn to the ground? Will it work of the stock headlight **** or do I need to hook up an alternate switch? Who knew headlights could be this confusing! haha

Re: headlight conversion I need help please..
I did the H4 conversion on my '85 camaro, I even corrected and used the aftermarket wiring kit. When I start my car with the lights connected, it is very shaky and will eventually stall; it stalls instantly if I turn the headlights on. I wonder if the battery or alternator cannot handle that much? It's strange how even having the headlights connected but turned off causes a problem though... The power wires in the new harness connected to the battery must somehow be tied directly to the lightbulb ground? That's all I can think of.

Re: headlight conversion I need help please..
Another problem may be that the headlights are 100/90watt bulbs, but that still should not affect the car while the lights are off. I also forgot to mention: If I disconnect the lights from the battery, they car will run fine, so I know that the fuel pump/ fuel filter is not bad. The car will not crank once it stalls. I wonder if there is a problem with the factory harness being connected to relays, along with the aftermarket harness having relays.

Re: headlight conversion I need help please..
hey krisb410, this is a long shot question, but did you have any trouble when you upgraded your head light harness? I got mine done but all 4 lights come on and stay on, but a couple of times they went to low beam,do you think it could e the harness or dimmer switch? thanks
