Trick Flow CNC heads cost as much as AFR's
Whats the deal with this now? Are these new trickflow castings, and not the Duttweiler (sp?) heads?
TrickFlow's website doesnt show flow numbers but summit's catalog shows old numbers of 257cfm at .500 lift intake and 186 at .500 exhaust. low lift numbers seem good but the heads seem to die off after .500 lift.
I'm about to order new elminator AFR's since these heads have now went up in price. The flow numbers seem somewhat realistic tho if they are indeed what they can flow out of the box. I hear AFR as well as most head manufacturers inflates their numbers.

Re: Trick Flow CNC heads cost as much as AFR's
I just put AFR #1034 heads on my car. Lots of fitment problems. Told AFR tech rep Jeremy about it a few times. He said he would get back to me. Never did. I called him yesterday, he said there is a machining error on the valve cover rails, I said I know, I had to use aftermarket valve covers. I asked him what he could do to make it right. He said unless I pull the heads and send them back, ther isn't much they could do. I said how about paying for the valve covers I had to buy. He said send in a copy of the receipt. I don't have a receipt, I bought them 2nd hand.
I cannot honestly recommend AFR heads.

i've read that thread about those heads
i'm goin with the 1040's more than likely and if i have to run aftermarket valve covers, i will as i dont like the stock ones I dont know if there is any big difference between the 1034's and 1040's other than spark plug type and combustion chamber size. But as long as they dont have any serious issues other than that, i'll probly go with AFR's. I hope to get them flow benched too just to see if they flow what they say.

....But, as I said before, they do seem to make some power. I'll post dyno results as soon as I can. Bill

Dyno don those look very similar to as AFR advertises. If that is the case then i may not get them flow tested and trust AFR and your numbers
I just ordered the 1040's tonight. 65cc L98 angle plug. i will however get them milled to 60 cc i think to keep my compression up on my stock shortblock. thats about .030 inch for 5 cc so i hope i still have enough clearance for the cam.

Re: Trick Flow CNC heads cost as much as AFR's
Milling a cylinder head refers to machining (removing) material from the cylinder head - to -engine block mating surface plane, which in turn reduces the combustion chamber volume, to increase the compression ratio. This process may also require removing material from the cylinder head-to-intake manifold mating surfaces, to correct the geometry common to cylinder heads, engine block, and intake manifold. Bill

yep, getting the bottom of the heads shaved down abit. i really want to keep compression up and that why i wanted 60cc. i really want 58's but that may be too small later down the road when i upgrade to a different motor with different pistons

Re: Trick Flow CNC heads cost as much as AFR's
AFR told me that to acheive 58 cc chambers would require angle milling, at least on the #1034 head. Their ad also states that milling the head will affect flow. I would encourage potential buyers of AFR heads to get "straight" answers to these questions before ordering. I asked the questions, got the right answers, but still received a questionable product. I hope your experience is better (as long as your car isn't faster than mine....!) Bill
