You need the proper heads/cam/intake to compete the package which relates to cfm flow thru the system and efficiency of the burn. port design/combustion chamber design all has a hand in power development. Given equal motors with one being larger, yes it should make more power. The "theory" part is the rest of the motor package that actaully does the power making, heads/cam/etc.

I've seen a lot of ford 4.6 motors making more power at the same "boost" levels than some much larger LSx motors because the airflow of the system was better in the ford case and its OHC/head design
you should keep up with the lsx stuff more then, because they're making ungodly power over there now......

but the nuts and bolts of it is, all other things equal, the larger motor will always make more power

.... hey you know what, I think I may have an engine in mind, I dont think its in the $1500 range (if a 400 hp engine was in that range, dont ever count on it being that cheap) this engine from one year, crate engine, it needs a carb, distrbutor starter, fuel pump, etc, but consider this engine raither cheap:
http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...ain2.asp?cat=G
it will cost you about around the range of $3500 to $4000.
maybe even more.
I first thought that would be a great engine to have, my only against to it was how will the miles per gallon would be on it. Im sure it will be a total gas guzzler.
but thats the only engines I know that has 400 hp for a low price.

Re: Best place for a short block?

wow thats pretty cheap for almost a whole engine, i will look into that and the fast burn 385 if im going to go whole engine. But really just looking for a shortblock, considering I have a LT4 hotcam, vortec heads and HSR all ready to bolt on. Might just buy a used one for cheap if I cant find any decent new ones. They discontinued the L31 block right when I was going to buy it.
