Walker Y-Pipe
Ordered a stock OEM y-pipe for my stock 85 305/TPI engine. Walker part #40445. What a POS! They took 2 1/2" pieces from the exhaust manifolds and welded it to a 3' piece to the 3" cat flange about halfway in the center of the pipe. The weld and fit were horrible. Also, the short drop on the drivers side where it is welded to the 3" piece, well, they only cut a hole about 1 1/2" in diameter where it meets creating a terrible restriction. Also, no mandrel bends but accordian-style further limiting the exhaust flow. So, whatever you do, don't buy one. Even if I got it for free I would not install it on my car. I sent it back for a refund. It was pathetic. Badman

Re: Walker Y-Pipe
Regardless of the price, you ordered a stock replacement part, and you got stock replacement quality. That's pretty much how the exhaust on these cars was done from the factory, which is why one of the first recommendations for a performance car is always to replace every part of the exhaust.

Re: Walker Y-Pipe
True, but until I replace the engine I have to make due with what I got. No sense replacing anything until I decide which powerplant I am going to go with. May stay with Gen 1 SBC or go to LS series engine. While the OEM setup is definately not the best, I do expect replacement parts to be built at least to spec. This piece from Walker looked like a 5-year old had made it. The intention of my post was to alert other TGO members to this and have them look elsewhere for the part if they need it. Today I found a muffler shop that will build one for about $100.00. Next year along with my engine swap, headers and a completely new exhaust system will be installed. Till then, my oil burning, tired little 305 will have to do.
