Door Hinge Repair Kit (Deluxe) from TDS - opinions?
I've ran into the inevitable, and my doors have begun to sag to the point that they've chipped my paint. Has anyone purchased and used this kit? I'm looking for any info that pertains to how well the doors worked afterwards.
and if not this kit, what have others used to correct their sagging doors - 212 dollars is quite alot for a few pins and bushings...but I'm not surprised after what I paid for my t-top weatherstripping

I need to get them myself. One of our local guys did it, and it like like a 2007 set of doors now! I've heard lots of good things about that kit.

whoaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! 212 bucks for hinge pins.. maybe if u got a body shop to do it for ya.. i do body work for a living.. hinge pins nd bushings shouldnt even come close to that.. try nd get a set off of ebay or something.. i think pepboys even has them in the help section.. and the job isnt to bad.. ps.. use a grinder to grind down the old pins so u can use them as a punch to knock the old ones out.. and a hydraulic floor jack with padding and a buddie is a neccesity

Keep in mind that the upper hinge is not the standard GM type deal, have to replace the whole hinge to get it right. Work and dollars there.

Re: Door Hinge Repair Kit (Deluxe) from TDS - opinions?
Purchased and installed the repair kit from TDS. Repaired both door upper hinges in one day session. Start to finish the job took me about six hours.
This is a do it yourself job but I would suggest that a helper is well worth the cost of a meal or a cold brew or two.

Here's the run down. Looks to be a job but I replaced a 1985 IROC set last year with ebay items and it was still a son-of-a-gun. I guess you have to factor in how long you plan to own the car. If it's a keeper, do it with the Deluxe kit and be never worry again.

I can tell you that if your planning to do subframe connectors, you better get the hinges done first or you're asking for trouble. The doors are an intregal part of the chassis assembly. If they are sagging and you install connectors, you're door alignment will always be an issue.

I did them. They are worth it. It can be a one person job, just make sure you have a stool and give your back a break from bending over so much regularly.
Air tool with a grinder is a must for taking the old pins out.

Everybody was referring to the Motormite kits...
Those are only the LOWER hinges, not the uppers. And the uppers, are where the problem is, usually.

Re: Door Hinge Repair Kit (Deluxe) from TDS - opinions?
The TDS (Top Down Solutions) kit was the "only" answer for me after looking at others. Worked great! The only tool I had to barrow from a friend at a auto- body shop was the door spring remover/installer. Getting the spring out is easy without it but putting it back is a real pain. I went with the non-deluxe kit.

Re: Door Hinge Repair Kit (Deluxe) from TDS - opinions?
This can be done solo ( I did), but it's not easy or quick. You need to check if your upper hinges are worn. As they are not designed to be repaired (they're giant rivets, no bushings), your option is to replace the door (!) or do the TDS kit. The TDS kit is the only one I know of that has custom pins and greasable bushings to fix the upper hinge. All the "Motormite/Pep Boys" or any other brand will not address the upper hinge AT ALL, so the TDS upper hinge parts are completely custom machined for our cars, that is why the TDS Deluxe kit is more expensive. It even comes with loctite and a flippin' grease gun!
If you're upper hinges are in good shape, you can get the lower pins/bushings from TDS alone for $6.75 a set. The doors are incredibly heavy, esp. if you're a power window car. I squeezed the springs in a vice and safety wired them top and bottom, put them in place, and cut the safety wire, making that part of the job quick and easy.
Please know what you're talking about before you start criticizing.

Re: Door Hinge Repair Kit (Deluxe) from TDS - opinions?
I installed a TDS kit over the weekend. It IS a bear, I had to take the door completely off so I could cut the rivet off. I suspended it from the cherry picker. Took about two hours to do one side.
The end result is astounding. Doors really do close like new.
Like the hair-color chick says -- "expensive, but worth it".
