Cam selection

Ok looking for a little feedback here. Iam putting together my Iroc and would like to know which cam you guys think might work best. Its a 87-95 350 factory roller block bored 30 over with forged steel {stock stroke} crank, forged steel H-Beam 5.7 rods, Mahle forged pistons {10.6-1 comp with my 64cc heads}, Brodix IK200 aluminum heads with 2.02/1.60 valves 200cc runners roller springs good up to .575 lift with studs & plates, 1.5 full rollers rockers, HSR intake & rail kit, BBK 58mm TB, 30lbs/hr injectors, MSD digital 6 ign with MSD coil, Moroso deep sump pan & HV pump, 150hp NOS kit. Right now its still mated to a WC T5 {until i scatter it}, 3.73 posi, 255-50-16 soft compounds on the rear. The cams iam looking at are listed in order of my interest intil i get some feedback that its a bad choice... #1 Comp 08-306-8 grind # 290HR-12 with 230/244 dur @ .050, lift is .510/.540 with 1.5s & a LSA of 112. #2 Lunati 54756LUN grind # RRA1-232-242 with 232/242 dur @ .050, lift is .510/.525 w/1.5s & a LSA of 110. Any suggestions or other cams you know of that might work better {both of those are 2000-6000 powerbands} I will be getting a chip made whenever i have all my specs together so thats no problem. Thanks Chad

Chad,
I first recommend a cam with a 112lsa. You will be able to make good power and maintain good idle as well.

I'm running Brodix RR200 heads on my motor and found the exhaust to flow much better than Brodix claims. Apparently they flow without a pipe and their flow numbers look conservative.

With that being said, I recommend a single pattern grind for your motor. Comp will gladly custom grind a cam for you. My recommendation is a 236/236 @.050, .555 lift ground on a 112 lsa. Have the cam ground 3 degrees advance, install it straight up or 109 degrees. You will be amazed at the flat power band this cam will provide.

Good luck!

I would not run more than 230@.050 duration even with a 383, and no more than 4 more degrees of duration on the exhaust, with a static compression ratio of 10.5 or less, with a decent breathing exhaust system. Since its fuel injected I would go with 111 or 112 LSA. And 4 degrees advanced also. Always run as much lift for a given amount of duration that you can find, And Make Sure You Have Enough Piston To Valve Clearance. I like the comp grind that is 560 int. and Ex. with 230 @ .050 duration int. and ex with 1.5 rockers. We have built several motors 383-400ci flat tops 64cc heads with this cam with 3.42 gears and 2400 converter, 200cc heads, that go high 11,s. Hopefully the heads flow in the low 70's percent on the exhaust compared to the intake flow. Lingenfelters 219 cam is 219 int and ex w 525 lift. int and ex. You know for sure that his choice was based off of a ton of knowledge and trial and error, and this cam is a great cam also. Any cams with more than 4 degrees more on the exhaust and any greater than 112 LSA bleed off to much cylinder pressure for 10.5 ish compression, Hence loss of torque. Hope this helps some

Well i took the leap, the other day i placed my second order with summit including the CC306 cam. I have talked to several people about that cam, also one who is running it with his HSR saying he likes it. My main concern was if i could retain the proper vac.. for the brakes and such plus tune the ecm to handle those numbers. I called Jamy at LSRacingchips and had a 1/2 hour talk about what i was building, he said it was a pretty large cam to tune with but he see's no problem making it work if i can deal with a choppy idle. He also said i may break high 10s with the bottle and getting it to hookup so ill keep you guys posted on how it runs.

Leathal - It's your car and money but I must say that I do not agree with the cam choice. A cam with 14 degrees more duration on the exhaust side is designed to compensate for a weak exhaust. Brodix heads have a pretty decent exhaust port.

Good luck!
