Got a new starter: LT1 = awesome
I replaced my crapped-out stock-replacement (don't even know what kind it was) starter today. Oh, and the battery cables. My battery-to-starter cable was burnt a little more than halfway through, I think I'll post a picture of it tomorrow - it was nasty looking. It would smoke when the starter was engaged. Anyhow, I put in a Duralast LT1 starter in its place. Wow, very very cool. That sucker rips the engine over like nothing. Way different sound and feel. Recommended to anyone looking for a new starter. I paid $119 for it from Autozone with a $60 core, lifetime warranty. It was worth every penny in my opinion.

Well, I don't know if I would necessarily go out and buy one and replace a good starter...well, maybe hah. Depends how much time/money you have I guess. If yours is going out, definitely. I think it was way worth the extra 60 bucks. Will I ever put in another 'stock' starter....no way, Jose.

Well it needs a heat shield but other than that it is ok. I don't care if it works better I don't mind getting it and then letting go of this starter.

I picked up one of the mini-starter from ebay. it's the hitachi style, similar to the proform one on Jegs. 80 bucks VERY well spent. Even with my battery relocated to the back, there's no problem starting the car, used to hesitate real bad.

I bought a mini starter from Summit, number sum-820323, a nippondenso style starter motor. No matter how I clocked it I could not get it to fit around the exhaust Y pipe. In disgust I picked up a Schucks cheapy and it works fine. I know that it will burn out in a couple years but what the hell. Guess I'll use the Summit starter in my Jeep with a chevy 350.
