FastChip by Ed Wright
Is his chips any good? I mean I have rear that they are and seen the time improvement. I need to get a custom chip burnt(i.e. I have no time to learn to burn chips or anything of the sort.) GM Hightech really gave him a lot of love for project blue thunder. I want to order one but I am just making sure of all my options. Thanks in advance.

Your combo doesn't seem radical enough to need a chip. You will have to send the chip back and forth to get it fine-tuned anyway.

I know everything about the mail order chips so I am not in need of major help. I know the rep about them but with no time to learn.
I have just added some ported and polished heads to my combo along with a 2200 stall torque converter, a Mallory Hy-Fire ignition box and a matching coil to the combo. So I may need it now. A gear change is coming in the form of 3.42's within the next few weeks as well. So it may help to get a new chip burnt.
Well....what should I do for a chip if you all think I am wasting my money?

Damn touchy subject...lol. I can adjust things with the AFPR and adjust my timing but what about fuel curves and such?

I have gone faster with a stock 350 chip ,timing 14DEGs and fuel psi bumped to 51psi and the knock sensor unhooked,) than with any aftermarket thing,,, I have always slowed way down with that crap ... my .02 Im still happy

I have been down both roads. I can certainly understand not having enough time to learn the burning end of it. And I see nothing wrong with doing the mail order thing if that is what YOU want to do. However, make sure you are clear on some things:
1. All the hard work you put into your combo will be for naught if you don't try to get the max out of your setup. And you probably can't do that mail order. (Personal experience here)
2. Even if you do it yourself it will take many many burns to get it right. Be prepared to do a lot of data logging and e-mailing it. And sending chips back and fourth in the mail.
3. Check with Ed but he will probably want more money every 3 or 4 chips he burns. And you may need to do 20, 30 or more burns to get it right.
If you want to do the mail order to get ya going for a while, go for it. But I think after a while you will see that the only way to do it is first hand.

Sure you will. I have LOOKED at the a CUSTOM (not just an off the self chip) from ed wright. There was so few things changed it is not even funny. It really isn't worth the money. I'm not knocking what Ed does -- he provides a valuable service, but you know what "they" say about having something done right . . .

If you want something close that will work their is a guy on ebay that will burn chips for $20.00. tpi_parts
Buy a $35.00 Moates G1 adapter.
Have him burn the Super AUJP with or without EGR or CCP.
This code has more fuel, more timing so you don't need to advance the base just leave it at 2deg or 4deg. Although it has enough midrange spark you will probably have to run 93 octane.

My Ed Wright chip was garbage, plain and simple. The car ran pig rich and continually did wacky stuff. After spending $300 on my "custom" chip Ed wanted $150 more to take another shot in the dark. I had a friend make me a chip with nothing more than the ARAP bin with a few changes and the car pulled much harder.

for my GN i used a mail order chip- the car had bigger injectors- ported heads- front mount intercooler- high stall convertor- and so on. i went to a guy eric from turbo tweek- he makes custom chips for turbo regals only- he charged me 70$ and once i put the chip in- it definatly made the mods that i had work well together- dont just go to anywhere, try and find somewhere that is familiar with your setup and can do it right the first shot. just my 2 cents

Not knocking ANYONE else's tuning........
However, from my experiences alone, I've re-tuned SEVERAL peoples vehicles from all over the US that have had Ed Wrights or other company's and or DIY PROM's.
I've even owned a "Custom" Ed wright chip. Because of that chip and how horrible it made my new combo run, is the reason I learned to tune PROM's myself.
On a side note, I have seen a couple of cars with Ed Wright's Tuning run pretty good!
That's the gamble that you have to decide on.

reading this thread makes me really dissappointed...............
i have always thought ed wright was good
of course telling him what you got and him randomly changing things makes it difficult, but for the money he should allow you to keep sending it back to get it to run right
heres my idea.......
could you get a scanner on a laptop and see what the engines doing, and somehow record whats going on, and send him the info to get a better idea of whats going on????

well between school and work, i havent got the time to learn much on chip tunning.... i got an idea on what i need to get started and read a few articles but have no idea what and how to change tables and stuff. i want to build a pretty radical combo for 450hp or so, and i need some one to help me out or make a chip for me. but thats down the road

I knew what it meant after my first time through trax's tuning article.
Tuning requires more than just datalogs and software programs to accurately tune. It requires an understanding of what you're looking at, how to apply the necessary changes, it requires trial & error, and above all else it requires patience.
BEFORE you start buying parts for your next build up - wander over to the DIY PROM forum and do some research. You'll uncover alot of misconceptions regarding what works and what doesn't - some may even help guide you to that magical 450.

i read trax's article like twice a while ago and had an idea of what to do....
there is a dyno/performance shop about 2 hours away from me that dyno tunes and stuff. i might check them out to help me out. especially with dyno tune, it would be best to see whats working and what needs to be done. wideband would help too.
i do plan on a common combination.... something on the lines of a 383-388 with superram and trickflow 195's..... cam i am unsure of yet.... maybe ZZ409 grind, maybe 224/230 comp xtreme nrg, or the 230/236 comp xtreme nrg.... i want lots of power, but somewhat good street manors and think that 230/236 would be a bit heavy for street, but i want that lopey idle....

You guys that are bashing Ed's tunes just need to bring your cars up here to him and have him dyno tune your car for you and then you will change your views of his work. I personally know Ed and have never heard any complaints other from those of you in here that are griping about it. If you order a custom chip from him, its just like ordering a mail order chip form some other company. Its a set tune that has been done most likely. Just my .25cents.

I'm not bashing his tunes ... I'm just saying you cannot tune a car with a mail-order chip ... if Ed was with the car or the car taken to him, he could log it and then do the chip and it should be fine .. its just very tough to just guess what a car needs just by a list of parts that you have..

Besides, telling someone who's car is barely driveable "just bring your car up here to him (Tusla, OK)", just ain't the best advice.

White91GTA -- Even dyno tuning a car, only gets it so far, you really need to tune car for every condition. I'm sure Ed can do a fantastic WOT tune on the dyno, but will the drivability be there?
Him tuning the car in person is one thing, I am speaking from experiance, in having looking at what he changed in the mail-order, custom chip. There was so little change, and the car ran so bad, its not worth the money.

what parts would a person need for him self to program? because i did a mail order chip and they cut off the cold start injector has to send it back have checked it.
