ebmiller88's C4HD kit

I just installed this kit from Ed, using his refurbished calipers.

It's a great kit, popped on without much trouble. The finish of the product is very good, painted spindles, zinc plated hub and bracket, individually packaged hardware for the caliper to bracket, and the brake pad hardware so you don't need to sort out anything. The spindle assembly came assembled, so all was needed was to install the spindle, pop on the rotor and caliper, bleed, and go. As I mentioned to Ed, if I didn't know better, I wouldn't know that this is a kit Ed made himself.

There were only 2 areas to note, none of which are a knock on Ed. He was very helpful in answering questions and giving suggestions:

1) You need a 12mm hex key socket. Since that was not in my arsenal, and I wanted to be a cheap ***, I bought a 12mm hex key from Sear's, cut off a chunk, and stuck it on a 3/8" 12mm socket. Well, trying to torque down to the spec's listed in my Helm manual for a 1LE setup, I snapped my socket. I ended up buying a replacement socket and a 1/2" socket. So, being a cheap *** didn't pay off there, when a 12mm hex key socket could be bought for about $15 from a vendor I know, I easily spent $20. Sears, OSH, Home Depot, etc. didn't carry the 12mm hex key socket. I could have replaced the bolts with a hex cap, but I wanted to keep the hex socket bolt. I think it's more convenient and easier to torque from the odd angle behind the calipers, and less likely to strip.

2) I needed to grind the pad down a bit, to fit the retaining pin through. This is totally an issue with the pads, IMHO.

None of these issues are Ed's issues and is helpful in resolving the issues. He uses top grade bolts with lock washers for the carrier. The brakes work great, and is a huge improvement over the stock 10.5" rotors. My heavy, fully optioned Z28, feels like it's actually stopping now.

I very highly recommend this product and ebmiller88. It's exactly like the Baer Track kit in function, but much cheaper. I give a thumbs up on Ed, and the product and wouldn't hesitate to buy another kit from him or recommend him to others I know.

The stuff is zinc plated now?

On #2, just about everybody has to do that it seems.

Yep, zinc plated. Pretty neat for Ed to do that, keeps the rust off over time.

Yeah, I figured #2 was pretty common.

Anyone know who's running that site? I'd be interested in finding out if it's one of the guys here who worked on getting the LS1 upgrade to work or if it's just some random guy.

I don't know who runs that site.

Contact Ed Miller (ebmiller88) at ebmiller88@aol.com for pricing. He's a member here and has contributed to the brake upgrade threads. The C4HD is the 13"x1.1" kit, which are the ZR1 calipers and rotors.

I emailed the guy from big brake upgrade and heres what i got

In answer to your questions, the hubs are cut down rotors, most are used- they are cleaned then machined with new races installed. The bearings for the price are obviously imported, I use part master bearings which are a standard at any auto value store, I could use timken but it would reflect in the price. The premium bearings can be added if you prefered. As far as third gen- I am a member but I rarely post..I would really perfer not to advertise my id or these there as there is already a member there who sells top notch brake upgrades, last thing I would want to do is step on any business he has going there. The demand for the set up was high in my area so I started to produce them, then it grew to a small pastime, looking at the prices it easy to see That I`m passing along some deep discounts and providing a quailty set up for a resonable price, at the prices they are at, there is not a lot of profit once parts and time are figured in. I`d be happy to have your business if your intrested Al.

Scott

I hope that answers some Questions

Quote from a PM from Ebmiller88

Hi Nick..been a while. I still offer the C4 kit and others, but the price has gone up since my last reply: steel is higher and I zinc coat parts now. The 12" C4s are $675 and now also include Earls' front lines. I can change the price by $50 if you don't need the lines. My kits are complete and bolt right in

Kit comes with everything ready to go and ed workes with you every step of the way. if you have a problem he fixes it right there and send items fast. Does this ebay guy do this?? I think this kit is well worth it but you can see.

The pic in my living room is all you get. plus the earl lines. I painted the calipers my self

I was looking into this for my 1991 RS and wanted to know your impressions. I know you say they are awsome, but can you elaborate a little as to WHY they are awsome. Basically a before and after comparision.

i really like them. the brake seems firmer now. let me say when i used to brake with the old brakes they would press to the floor and not lock sometimes. fully bleed system no air in the lines. now with the new brakes i can press the pedal and it stops better and quicker. better fell in the pedal only have it press half way or so and your stopping. don't know what else to say.

yes you pay a core but when you send your spindles back he refunds your money. hope this helps any other questions
