Well, I read the article.

But a very experienced engine builder I know says its hype.

I priced the springs and retainers and they're ridiculous. Almost $400 for the springs and the titanium retainers. Quite a bit less for steel retainers, though.

I know the LS1 engines use them from the factory, so there must be some merit to them.

i have a freind that works at AER here in dallas... and they are swapping all of there ford motors over to these springs.... they are dyno proven.... they actually free up some hp....... kinda weird huh?.... i also talked to comp cams and he can get me a cam/lifter/spring/retainers/locks for my car for just under 450

So, are you gonna go ahead and try them? What kind of hp increases does your friend report?

I may try these. BBC's are notorious for their heavy valvetrains, especially with hydraulic roller lifters (which I have).

they are alot lighter because of the smaller diameter retainers, and they do wonders for preventing valve float caused by valves bouncing off the seats.

preston smith swears by them, and seeing as his turbo charged iroc runs 9.80's i think he might have a good idea

alot of guys are probably familiar with his car, its been in just about every magazine at one time or another, he lives right up the road here

i know on a big block that they used these on... it was in a mag artical.. or something... the non-behives started to float valves at 5800 rpm... and with the behives they went to 6800 plus? if thats not a good enough reason the i dont know what is... they said it was still pulling and making power.... but as far as the actuall increase i am not sure.... didnt ask really but they just told me they were bad A$$ and helped out alot on some motors more than others soooo to each his own ... i will run these on my tfs heads i am getting at christmas.... so.....

Article didn't specify which retainer they used.

Can't tell by pics if titanium or steel.

Well, now they are in hand

We'll see how things go when I install these along with my new 1.8 Crower ss rockers

I also opted for the titanium keepers

On the subject, how does one calculate increases in lift and duration with changes in rocker arm ratios?

why 1.8 rockers if you dont mind me asking? and i noticed that you didnt specify what cam you have in your sig. did you swap cams or is it still a factory one? if it is a factory then you may see better performance from the cam than just rockers.

this is the way i know how to do

example.

lt4 hot cam has a lift of .525 at .050 with 1.6 rockers... so
if u take the .525/ 1.6=.328125ish so thats the actuall lift on the cam... (i hope)... then u multiply it by the rocker size u are gonna go with which is 1.8 correct? so .328125x1.8=.590625 so about a .590 lift thats they way i know how to get the lift.... hope this helps

no i understand that but why spend all that money on crower rockers instead of a healthy cam?

1) Got a great deal on the rockers. Someone else bought 'em new and I ended up with them.

2) When I installed the cam several years ago (CC 264 HR), I was just getting started in modifying my TBI'ed vehicle. If I knew then what I know now, I would've installed a slightly larger cam.

3) Its a lot less work and $ to swap rockers than cams
