Gear Vendors OD unit
I saw their site. I like the concept. Price is a bit high, but I'll just save up for it if I decide to get it. Any comments about it? People who have it, please spill the beans about this thing - good, bad, ugly, what?

I was just reading a post of someone who put some similar units on a fleet of trucks he had. He said it was a neat idea and they worked great for the first 60,000 miles. But every single unit failed and ended up being a bunch of boat anchors at the end of their life and was just a money pit. Made me think twice about it. Better off getting a real overdrive tranny at least they are rebuildable.

I was looking at this too.
I looked at this too, they say its rated up to 1200hp and the race ones even more. Good idea but like stated before, I have heard serious problems with their overall durability after they get some miles on them. I think I'll save up the extra bucks and get a Richmond R.O.D. six speed, now thats a bulletproof tranny.

I dont see how you can compare a fleet truck with one to just a car. I dont know about you guys but I only drive my car for half the year maybe depending on how crap the winter goes. I dont even think Ive gotten 5k on it in the past year???
They have to come with some kind of warranty and I would think that if they want to stick around they will stand behind their product.

I am also interested in any comments about them.
BTW their web-site is http://www.gearvendors.com
Does anyone know what respected guys like Dana at Pro-Built feel about them?
Here are the only threads a search on the subject yielded:-

Their waranty looks better than anything I've ever seen from transmission builders: two years for non-commercial use behind an automatic, one for commercial/manual. It would probably take me 5-6 years to put 60000 miles on one, so even if it was a total loss at that point (doubtful; its a planetary-type transmission, should be fully rebuildable. seems I read they have an exchange/rebuild program of some sort also) its still a better bargain than a built 4L80E. From their site:
Two time winner of SEMA's best engineered award.
Original Equipment on over one million new vehicles from GM's Callaway Corvette to Fleetwood Rv's.
The industries best warranties:*
2-Years unlimited mileage on non-commercial use automatic transmission applications.
1-year on all commercial and manual transmissions.
30 Day Money Back guarantee. You can actually drive it for 30 days and get your money back if you don't love it. *(See 2-year limited warranty page).
