i've heard nothing but good things about pro-built transmissions http://www.pro-built.net

Give them an email/call they are supposedly very good.

My 700R4 was built by a company in Tallehassee, FL called Fairbanks. It has lasted a few years now with no problems.

Maybe you need to ask why are you blowing up trannys so quickly. With a ZZ4TPI, it may be enough to blow an older style 700R4, but there are people running a lot more TQ then you can make with that combo and they are fine. Are you running nitrous too? If so, is it on a window switch? Running it through the shifts will kill the tranny quick. Do you have a higher stall converter? If so, it would be a great idea to have a cooler on it too.

Around 1989, they went with a 28-vane pump, which helps a lot. Corvette servo and shift kits for better shifts are good upgrades to a stock tranny too. Again, what are you blowing up? The shafts or clutch plates or gears? These are things the company will ask too.

Two compnaies I have never heard anything bad about: Art Carr (except for price), and Level 10. At the NJ Dragstrips, the overdrive tranny's are usually only built from Level 10 because they last! I've never dealt with Pro-built but I hear very good things about them from people on this board. As long as you get the tranny from a well-known company where they'll give you a free rebuild if your tranny dies in the first few months, then you'll be all set.

I like the pro-built trans myself. For $1250 you get their stage 3, then you through in a shift kit an stall, you are looking aorund $1600 for a new bullet proof 700r4.

Unless someone else knows where I can pick up a 700r4 like that for under $1250? If you can let me know.

I am running a 92 700R4 behind my ZZ4TPI set up with a 2025 stall and no problems. I also have a 3:23 posi rear so it does spin some.
Eventually I will upgrade to a better built 700R4, Not sure who from, maybe TPI, or maybe I'll check the company in Tallahassee since they are kinda close to Jacksonville.
Good luck and when you go to the 6spd you can drop in 4:10s
