Trickflow kits from Summit Racing

I have a 1984 Z28 with a 355 chevy and Holley 650. IŽam thinking of buy the 350 hp or 420 hp kit from Trickflow.

I get cam, heads, push rods and so on for about 1430$

Does anyone have any opinions?

Thanks

Jimmy

I think Trickflow makes some very good products ( I have their heads), but I can't speak about the engine packages. I too am looking into them for my next build up.

I don't know about the packages, but I've got the trickflow heads. They're really good, but you've got to remember that you'll lose some bottom end, but it totally makes up for it on the top. One of the things I noticed was that if you use those heads (I got the ones for 87 and later chevy's w/ centerbolt valve covers) w/ the summit full roller rockers, I couldn't get valve covers that would clear. It was weird because they actually raised the valve cover lip. Most heads will machine both perimeter and center bolt holes, but trick flow only did centerbolt. The problem was fixed by grinding the hell out of the roller rockers and having to buy special valve covers.

I wasn't impressed w/ that, but all in all it was worth it.

trickflow heads here... got the 64cc ones, 23*, cnc chamber option... like em so far, not impressed with the power... with an xr288 cam, only making 430hp and 406 ftlbs with lt headers, and a victor jr intake...

compare that to the vortec headed motors making 400 hp with a much smaller cam, not all that impressive... kinda kickin my self in the *** for not pickin up afr's, but so far power is pretty good i guess...

As for there cam packages, i think i am going to attempt a cam swap or playing with diff ratio rockers... so far trickflow hasnt been very helpful after asking for ideas for cams for these heads...

the heads ARE of excellent quality however!

Have you thought about going with a dual plane intake and ditching the single plane? Maybe that would help. Just an idea.

not only thought about it, but did it on the dyno... lost a bunch of hp, and lost a couple ftlbs...

the vic jr is a reallllly good intake for a single plane... i picked up some lower end curve with the dual plane of the single, thats really the only difference..

i have found my issue as to why its down on expected power... my compression is almost a full point lower than what i thought (recalculated it, after discovering that my postions had a higher relief colume than i thought)

figuer 4% per point of compression for HP, and figuer the cam would be a bit happier with more compression as far as cylinder pressures go - i figuer im down 20hp and probbaly more than that in torque..

Don't get me wrong - i power band is great, but was 20hp less than i expected... and well, i think i found out why...

i would say trickflow heads are a good middle of the road head - they come assembled with good parts, and pretty good springs. i have had no isses with a rev kit installed.

As for cam choice, i think i might suggest you go with sometihg mid 500's lift, and 050 duration of about 232/236ish...
