Need Some Tire Advise

I have an 87 Formula with 16x8 inch rims. The car calls for 245/50/16's with a V speed rating. I have a few questions:

Is anyone running a larger size than this on there 16x8 inch rim? What is the max ic can put on it 255/265/275? Also, I'm kinda on a budget. In other words, I'd be willing to spend the money but want to see if anyone knows of some good deals on preferably Z rated tires.

Do you know of any manufacturer that sells Z rated 255 or 265/45/16's?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

You really don't want to put a wider tire on a wheel just because you can. Going to 255 will probably be just fine, but to get the best handling out of any tire/wheel combo, you want to use the widest wheel possible for your tire size. This will give you the widest contact patch (and flattest if you are running fairly low profile tires). Having said that, I have really only seen it on ricers, but I have seen some where it actually looks like the wheel is too wide for the tire--it looks really stupid.

I've got a post on the Midwest Region Board on tires that you might want to check out.
I sell tires where I work, and on my own.
For your 16x8" stock wheel I would not go bigger than a 255/50R16. That is the biggest that you are going to be able to find easily.
BF Goodrich does make a 265/50R16 though.
I have run 255/50's on the back and had some rubbing during hard cornering. So I went back to the P245/50 on the rear.
If you want to improve the Steering response and improve handling you can run P245/45R16.
I run them in the front. Since the wheels are front/rear specific I never worry about rotating them anyway.

yeah i agree with them..i wouldnt go any wider than 255s. and if you do decide to go with them only get them out back.

the 245s are readily available, but there arent all that many 255s. i know that you can get BFG comp ta ZRs in 255s, as well as firestone firehawk SZ50s.

i am looking at bridgestone RE730s, but they only come in 245s.

these may be a little too much money for what you want to spend, but they are all Z rated performance tires.
