Need help on engine rebuild

Ok guys, I just picked up a 350 from a junkyard (it's a pre-85 block, so not roller)that I am going to build into a medium street engine. I want it to run a good 1/4, have a nice exhaust rumble, and good acceleration from start to finish. I'm not trying for a real low 1/4 like 11's or somthing, but 13's would be nice. Right now I was thinking of Vortec Heads, Performer manifold, Edelbrock 600 CFM carb, Comp Cams High-Energy Cam kit (comes with hydraulic cam, lifters, retainers, valve locks, valve stem seals, matched valve springs, and High Energy Timing chain set) I was looking at the cam with a .480 lift on both exhaust and intake, comp cams magnum self aligning rocker arms, Edelbrock fuel pump, hooker headers, B&M torque converter (holeshot 2400 with 2200-2400 stall range), rebuilt kit with 9.73:1 compression ratio, MSD distributor with 6AL ignition, and I don't know if I'm leaving out anything, but I might be. If you have any suggestions, or info on how you think this setup will perform, please let me know. Thanks alot.

Are you concerned with emissions? I dont think that setup will pass! If change the intake to a performer RPM, or victor jr, and change the carb to a 650cfm edelbrock quadrajet performer replacement (carb), that setup should hit a mid-high 13. Is your car a TPI or TBI? Also, keep in mind that if you go with vortec style heads, you'll need the edelbrock vortec intake in performer rpm or victor jr, if you have TPI with vortec heads, you'll need the scoggin-dickey vortec TPI intake manifold. You can make a TPI setup run well too!

I live in Florida, so emissions are not a concern. I want a setup that will run good, and sound mean. I don't want it to be tooo rough. The engine was out of a carbed vehicle. I want to leave it carbed because I am going to start showing the car more often, and I like the clean engine bay look. I don't like all the wires, and clutter of a computer controlled car. Thanks for the info. Any other opinions/suggestions. Thanks.

I would go with the Vortec heads, RPM intake, at least a 650 carb, and a cam with at least .480 lift. The Vortec really shine at .500 for being "factory truck replacement parts" by some standards. But I love mine. If you follow the CHP buildup, you should come up with low 13's, maybe break the 12's. Oh, and make sure you have a good ignition.

Car: 1988 Firebird S/E

Transmission: TH-350/3500stall
Axle/Gears: 7.5" Auburn 4.10 Posi-Traction
That 280 magnum comp cam (.480" lift)
really needs a higher stall than 2400.
More like 2800 to 3500rpm. Go with the performer RPM intake and a 750 cfm carb.
Don't wimp out on the rear gear either if you want to run such a big cam, 3.73's or 4.10's. If you're stuck with a 2400 rpm converter you'd be better off with a smaller dual pattern cam.

I think I will go with the RPM Airgap intake, and a should I go with the 750 Performer, or the EPS 800 cfm. I am trying to match the parts so they perform well togther (i.e. edelbrock intake and carb, comp cams cam and comp cams w/ springs etc, and comp cams rockers, etc etc). OK, here's another question, would this setup be streetable (with the higher stall converter). I want it to still have street manners, but with better than street power hehe. If not, can you help me out with something that would fit my needs. Thanks alot.
