anyone using a timing belt on sbc?

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to use a belt? Seems like you'd have to block off all the oil ports to the timing chain too.

The only reason I don't use one is they are like $900. Uhhh.......no!! A chain will work just fine for me.

The slight advantage it may give you nowhere near comes close to the cost factor. Especially if you're thinking for your 305.

We (brother too) run the Jesel system on our late models. I don't see the benifits on the street. The belts stretch sooner then a good roller chain system.
If you do decide (just to be trick, show car)make sure you degree your cam with complete valve train installed. If you are racing you can run a little looser belt (we do this) at the upper RPM's the cam will retard a couple of degrees (NASCAR low tech VTECH). A open (no cover) dry system would look very trick on show car!!!
