Comp Cams stud girdles
im looking at comps stud girdles...
when should i start considering getting one?
will it really help anything?
what is the diff between 2piece ones and 1 piece ones? (comp cams part numbers 4009 and 4001 )
the motor is a 400SB solid roller.. cam specs have not been chosen yet, but its going to be somewhere between .580 and .600 lift and lotsa duration... with a soild roller, the profile of the cam is going to be pretty harsh on the springs...
studs are ARP, 3/8", comp springs and guideplates...
i dont hear much talk about stud girdles.... anyone have some info to share? if its cheap insurance i need, i'll go for it, but if its unneeded, i wont.

they tie all the studs together, so none of them can get to far out of line....helps maintain proper valve geometry...the 2 piece ones are 2 seperate pieces that bolt together, and capture the rocker nuts (they usually use tall round body nuts that the girdle can clamp to)
the 1 piece is the same thing, only its just cut out, and has slots in it...there are bolts in it that clamp it onto the nuts when tightened....both are usually billet aluminum...i have the comp cams 1 piece
