TPI on Vortec Heads
I am planning on using Vortech Heads on a
L98 shortblock with the original TPI.
I am looking to purchase the new Vortec baseplate from Scoggins/Dickey. Anyone using this combo or see any problems?
thanks,

Those aren't new, and they're junk (unless another redrilled Vortec is out). The ports don't line up correctly, and the angle of the redrilled holes cuts down on the thread depth greatly, get ready for stripped intake bolts...
The TPI Vortec intake is the only way to go, I haven't seen any performance numbers other than the ones on scoggin dickeys site though.

I don't even know why they came out with re-drilled Vortec heads. Like Ray said, the ports don't line up. I don't see a way to drill them so that the ports would line up in the first place. If you get the SD base manifold, you should be set.

The redrilled vortec heads first showed up on the dirt tracks and were used with single plane intakes that had raised intake ports. This is how they got around the problem of having the ports not sealing and as far as the bolt holes they just had to be real careful and not strip them out.

I didn't think of that. These were pretty popular with circle track, and stock class racing before the general public realized the power potential. Huh, you learn something new everyday.
