Strut Tower Brace for Carbed Engines?

Anyone know if there is a Strut Tower Brace you can buy that will clear a carburator?

The Edelbrock one will fit, but not if you have AC... the compressor is in the way. George Lara used to make them, but I think he doesn't anymore.

I see Jegs has two edelbrock tower braces. One for an 82-92 TBI for 129.99 and one for 85-92 TPI for 159.99. Which should I get? I have an 84 with a 350 with which sits a Holley 750. Does one have more clearence than the other or should either one fit. Oh yea, theres no ac on my car.

I had a MAC STB that cleared my TBI which in essence is the same thing. Unfortunatly it's only a 2 pt. But it clears.

Get the one for TBI. It will work just fine.

Here is a picture installed on a carbed engine with air. The problem with air is on the older style compressors. It hits on the compressor bracket as I recall.

Hey Chuck,
Which brand is that installed?
It does not look like the Edelbrock one in the Jegs catalog.
The one in Jegs is straight across in the front. Could the one in Jegs be a different year??

That STB wont fit on any carbed car that has the AC compressor on the drivers side, it does hit the mounting bracket.

Thats reason number 3,456 why im ditching my AC system.

I got mine from Eddie when Chase racing was around but I am sure Summit or Jegs has the same part. It is made by Edelbrock.

That't the one I have! (two point legal in ESP in SCCA), and it fits with dual snorkel and drivers side A/C. IT'S GREAT!!!, I got the edelbrock one for christmas 00', and much to my dismay it didn't fit so I went through this in JAN. of this year

Does the STB get in the way when you are working on your motor? Or do you just take it off when you work on it? Just curious because I am interested in getting one. How much of a differance do they make also? Thanks.

If it gets in the way, you can unbolt it pretty easy I think. My biggest problem has been that the brackets on the strut towers DO NOT FIT unless I move the strut adjustment plates back a bit more. Edelbrock is very reluctant to tell you this needs to be done too... I had a lot more respect for them before I went through this whole ordeal!

As far as the STB getting in the way of working on the engine. It depends on what you are doing. I replaced my water pump without removing it. But removed it for the header installation. For replacing sparkplugs & general maintenance it can stay in place. Four bolts, six in my case since mine ties into the radiator support. But it is less than a 5 minute job to pull it out.

I just got my STB this past Wednesday and it took all of a half hour to put on, it was a tight fit on the towers, but it all worked out. I got the one edelbrock makes and there is definately a diffrence. Along with the larger sway bar i put on, there is vertually no effort made in turns now. Corners are much easier to negotiate along with winding roads.

I used the Ground Control Strut Tower Brace.Mine is a TBI car, but it'll clear a carb as well.I'm using a 14"x3" Air cleaner
and I've got plenty of room. Doesn't interfere with the A/C compressor either.
Also looks awesome as it's very beefy and
uses large steel rod-ends.

Guess I'm the odd one in the group.

I just got my strut tower brace for a TBI car and the heater hose valve is in the way.

The simple solution is to cut the hoses back and install the brace, but I'm wondering if I need this diverter valve for the heater core.

I'd kinda like to keep the valve on there for the simple reason I can redirect the water away from the heater core if it decides to leak.

what have you guys done with this valve?

I don't see it on chuck's car.

here is what my set-up STB looks like
i don't have the the diverter valve in the K&N open element, the leading from the TBI to the snorkel i used a 90 d elbow from the snorkel kit then used a vacumn cap on it
