Hurst Dual/Gate 2 Automatic Transmission Shifter

My question of the day is this:

Does the Hurst Dual/Gate 2 Automatic Transmission Shifter for 1983 - 1992 Camaro with TH-700-R4 or TH-200-4R install easily? The reason for asking is that on my Trans Am I purchased another shifter that installed into the console of the car and the installation was complicated and messy.

Has anyone installed this shifter? If so, can you detail for me the pitfalls and drawbacks of using this shifter and the difficulty of installation. Does it look "clean" once it is installed?

Thanks for any and ALL help!!!!

I have seen this shifter and it does look good installed wish i bought that instead of the B&M mega console shifter i have only had this shifter for about a year and the boot is cracking already, and the indicator bent and will not stay straight to tell the gears so I would recommend that shifter

Honesly, I love the B&M mega shifter but i havent used mine long so I guess i really cant judge. but i always do hear a lot of neagtive about it, it makes me wish that i bought that instead. Im sure the shifter installs just the same as the B&M one check out either of their websites Hurst Shifters and B&M racing im sure theyll have pics on there and prob some hints too

Hi,

It was a PITA to install, but I haver heard others say it was easy for them... Nothing is a direct bolt in. I don't think you can use it on Firebird's though not 100%

I just got mine put in. It looks great, but is a real pain to put in. The shift cable is a pain to put in the way the directions tell you too, and the neutral safety switch was't an easy thing to mess with either (i recomend taking the stereo/heat and ac control panel off, taking the stereo out, and bringing the cord above the plate inside). And matching up the shift plate to the shifter can be tricky.

i thought the only reason why they only advertised the dual gate shifter for camaro's, was because trans am's never had hurst shifters....but other then that...our car's are basically the same so i'd think it would work....

here's a pic of some guys car on here that has the shifter installed....

Has anyone installed a hurst dual gate shifter in a Trans Am? If so does it look nice? They look great in the camaros, but im not so sure if they would look so hot in a ta.

Let me know.

Hey guys, I'm not very educated about automatic transmissions but plan on getting a third gen this spring that has one. What is the function, and rewards from getting this shifter installed? how does the dual gate thing work and what exactly does it do? Thanks for not nagging on me for being a dummy about automatics.

Car: 2016 Camaro SS + ???
The Hurts dualgate and the B&M megashifter are basically the same as far as what they do. (guys, correct me if I'm wrong).

The Hurst has 2 gates side by side, and the MS has the 2 stacked on top of each other. You just push the MS down to engage the "race" gate.

Both shifter have normal mode, where they operate just like our normal shifter, but in race mode, you can push from first to second gear and NOT accidentally slip into third. Same for 2-3 and 3-4 shifts.

I think that basically how they work, right?
