Auto X-Ray says Vehicle Not Responding
Hello, I tried to hook a friends auto x-ray to my car. he put in all the correct numbers but when we tried to get a reading it kept saying "Vehicle Not Responding" We went thru all the trouble shooting procedures and it still would not respond. Tried it four times and nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Thanx for any info. I have a fastchip in my car would that make a difference?

I have an Autoxray and sometimes it has difficulty reading my S&P ZZ4 chip. I have heard the autoxrays have trouble reading aftermarket chips. What was strange when I first got the autoxray, it would not read the chip, then it started reading it more often. Now it works better than 90% of the time. It works 100% of the time on my 92 Z28 convt with the stock chip.

I have a fastchip and it reads mine just fine.
Sometimes if you have the car running, it kind of 'times out' and you have to cut the car off and start it back up to get it communicating again after like 10 minutes or so of it on.
Do you have the ignition on when you are trying?

Try entering different years of cars, engine types, etc...eventually you will find one that mostly works for your car. This is what I had to do before I sold that POS.

I have had nothing but trouble with auto xray. I sent it in once to get up dated and still had problems. Mr Miller told me they had trouble with the 165 ecm code and that they were working on it. After I got it back the only way it would scan my 86Z was with an corvette vin. I've tried recently on numerous occasions to get ahold of the tech guys and have been hung up on every time. As far as I am concerned I will never buy from these guys again. Good luck.

Trouble here, too. The display on mine was messed up. It didn't reliably scan, either. I e-mailed them, they gave me a few things to try (none of which worked), so they sent me a new one.
Well, the new one doesn't work, either. It never scans, so I can't even get to where the display was messed up on the first one.
After a few more e-mails without results, they finally called me (answering machine) to tell me that they were going to charge me for the second unit since I never sent the first one back (neither worked right, so which do I return?). Only after raising hell with them did I get someone who seemed to care to call me.
I sent the first one back and they determined that they had misprogrammed it - their fault. They could not explain what was wrong with the second one. They are reprogramming the first one and upgrading it while they're at it. They are also sending me a new (updated) manual. I am supposed to get it tomorrow. If it works, I'll send back the second one. If not, they have agreed to simply refund my money, if that's what I want. They said that an ECM defect can cause scanners to malfunction.
They told me that the owner of the company started on Chevys and that this should be no problem. This is the heart of thier expertise. I've got my fingers crossed...

well what mine did the same thing but, it was the cord it would never scan, but ever so often, you might want to check the cord, cause mine was bad they sent me a new cord after I cut a promo on them, cause they lost my first one and said I never sent one, thank goodness for ups tracking number. well anyway its might be the cord is bad. So you might want to try to wiggly it around and hold in a few positions to see if that is it. Hopes this helps.

I do not think it was the cord because before we plugged it into my car we had it plugged into a 85 IROC and it was working. Also I did try to wiggle cord around while it was in my car. But thanks for all the replies.
