after market ignition

alright got a question for those of you on this forum, which AM ignition would you guys recomend? im currently looking at 2 the msd 6al with the blaster 2 coil, and the accel 300+ and coil. now i know the msd is ananlog and i dont really feel like shelling out the extra cash for the digital, th accel is digital and less then the msd digital ign. but aside from that which ignition do you guys on here think performs better? i am also considering a jacobs ignition and coil but dont think i wanna spend that much especially considering this is for a street and light track use application. any replies will be apreciated.

thanks guys

i was planning on getting a msd box (6aL) with their coil also. still havent decided as of yet. i hear msd is a good company from searches i ran on their products.

welcome to thirdgen, its cool to see more Marylanders, be sure to check out these two boards.

to me the digital stuff is at least not for what i need.

MSD is the probably the most used on the boards here. I am also looking into the 6AL box. I already have the coil and wires, so im gunna stay brand loyal.

I've got the MSD BOx on both my cars and couldn't be happier, starting is easier, and you will feel the throttle response increase...just remember that it is only multiple sparks under 3500 rpm. I'm not sure about the accel, but if you want no pills to adjust the rev limit, the msd digital will do that for you too witha start retard, but i doubt your compression is that high anyway...

here is a new thought. I run the Crane HI-6 w/l-92 coil in my car and Jegs sells them as a package for $200.00. It is digital with adjustible rev limiter built in. no chips. hope this helps

I installed the Jacobs and it's pretty sweet. It's the older omni-magnum set-up, similiar to the new pro-street Jacobs according to Jacobs(65000 volt ultra coil). Mileage went from 15 to 20 with no other mods--maybe my old set-up was getting old or something, although it ran good. I guess I did do one other mod--increase the plug gap to 55. Of course it's increased throttle response, starts quicker, and power seems to be increased. I still absolutely can't believe the mileage Anyway, I picked up mine for 40 bucks on e-bay, with the 'killer' jacobs wires, wiring harness, and adapter distributer cap.

I also went with the Crane ignition... superb results. Great quality, plugged right in... great instructions, and then I backed it up with a Crane retard dial that also plugged right into the harness... now I can run nitrous all day and dial in the retard in the cockpit.

I put the accell 300+ ignition on my car last year and now it is on the garage floor it worked great but it dosnt work anymore and the car is only driven to the track and back .I dont know what happened i liked it when it worked but 500 miles is a short life i thought. so be careful if you buy it.also it comes with a liftime warrenty so it will be headed back to accell very soon.hopefully i just got a bad one.

For those of you who have the Crane setup, which one did you get? The HI-6 or the HI-6S and which coil did you get?

I got the HI-6 with the LX92 coil works great. if you go to Crane web site it will explain what the differences. the HI-6S is the cheaper or little brother to the HI-6. It's a plug and play system no spicing required. The c box and coil i have come together from jegs for 200.00 plus 25 or so dollars for the adapter plugs. my 2 cents

I've got the Holley Strip Annihilator, with the Pro Strip coil. No results yet, haven't wired it up. Still working on other issues right now on the car. And for some reason Holley discontinued their whole ignition line. I tried to get a reason from the tech line, but they didn't elaborate.

Thanks for the response Firedawg. I have been looking at the Crane products over the MSD for some time. My car is running rich right now and I need to get it running normal again before I do anything else.

I have the Accell 300+ setup. I havent run it yet as my 383 is still sitting on a stand while I finish all the porting of my Superram and heads. But out the box it is a nice piece. The ignition is nice and small so it can be tucked into alot of places and the harness adapter is of superb qaulity with looks that are identical to the stock harness.

It doesnt really matter which unit you buy as they will all perfrom very similiar. I paid like 215$ fort he 300+ which came with a coil, the harness which requires no splicing, built in rev limiter, and the perfect size.

No results yet, but I'm going with the MSD 6. I didn't get the AL because I don't rev it that high (Yet!). Besides, I got for basically nothing (listed a couple things on ebay for a friend, and helped him with some Ford Trans work). The only reason I haven't installed it yet is location. I haven't found a good place to put it yet! I was gonna put it on the front of the core support, but I'm going to TPI and will use the stock style air box that will get in the way under there. I'll come up with something!

As an update, after installing my starter heat wrap on Saturday my car refused to start and backfired out the intake. After some ignition diagnostics I reinstalled my stock coil and found that my ten month old Crane coil took a dump.
