Good mechanical gauges?

Who would you guys recommend getting gauges from? Autometer seems to be thrown around alot, any other companies I should look at?

F.Y.I. needing fuel level, oil press., coolant temp, volts, tach, tranny temp, and speedometer. Getting NOS gauges and fuel pressure gauges from NOS systems.

Also, how hard are mechanical gauges to hook up? I have heard they are more accurate. More expensive than elec? Do I need all that damn wiring also? I hate wires..hehehehehe.

All my gauges (in all my vehicles) are Autometer Mechanicals.
Fuel Level and Volts are always gonna be electric though.
Mechanicals are not much more expensive than good quality electric gauges (usually) and are definitely more reliable.
Only wiring on the mechanicals are for the lights.
See the catalog:

i am running mechanical guages where i can as well. I'll have all autometer guages this year when I'm out. Should be a lot more accurate....just was working on another member's IROC last week and ALL his guages were inaccurate compared to the scan tool at my auto shop class. The tach, volt, etc. were all off from the scanner's readings.

I've always been partial to Stewart-Warner Heavy Duty gauges. I think they more closely match with the factory gauges, if you're into that sort of thing.

I like Autometer, but some of their high-end gauges aren't available in 2-1/16" sizes.

I prefer mechanical gauges because mechanicals usually have a wider scale sweep; 270 degrees vs. 90 degrees for electrics.

Stewart-Warner has a web site (IIRC), but no on-line ordering capability.

I buy my SW stuff from these guys:

Be aware that SW stuff isn't as "cool" looking as some of the more modern stuff...no white face, glo-in-the-dark, etc. Pretty much old school (like myself).

Same here, not too much into the white face gages. Those SW gages look pretty slick. What sort of gages are you looking for? Autometer's Z series gages are just plain black and very simple but look good. They come in 2 1/16" sizes also. VDO Cockpit series gages are nice too.

I like the dark one's also guys. Thanks for giving me another link. I want to set me up a nice custom cluster using black gauges, and wanting to stay as far away as elec wires as possible(bad lightining experience as a kid ) Any of you got pics of your clusters? Send them to me if you don't mind!
