Vortec Heads, Ramjet Intake, rebuild ??'s
so im reabuilding my engine...and was planning on vortec heads, and gm parts actually sells the ramjet intake manifold also, i think im going to use that intake. i would like to just rebuild the motor using the same block and just put the heads and a new cam and that intake on it.....do you think that would work? everything says things should line up......how much power would i be looking at with a moderate cam? and if anyone has prices on the ramjet intake itself let me know....

That should work real well with the right camshaft and computer
tuning. The factory Ramjet MPI III stand alone computer
is factory locked with software codes so it is not tunable
or remapable without the lock codes.
So you would have to build with their RamJet cam or simular.
You could /should use a modified TPI or aftermarket computer
system for a more radial motor like the FAST system or ACCEL
or holley EFI stuff.
I'd say 400+ hp is available with stock vortec heads
and ramjet intake + EFI type performance cam. and custom computer tuning.
More with head porting.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com had the best price when I was looking at the ram jet manifold a while ago.It was around $1100 for the kit it has in it manifold, distributor, fuel rails,regulator,T-body,injectors,map and knock sensors, and coil. Its PN# 12498032 buying the kit is cheaper than buying it in pieces.

if you want to use vortec heads atleast go with the fastburn or
e-tec200. with a hot cam you will get nearly 430hp
another options is same combo with brodix vortec style heads.

if you want to go with vortec style head go with the fast burn or
e-tec 170 or 200 as an intake options ramjet is a good choice, if you dont want to spend too much money, buy a vortec style base from the sdpc and use your stock tpi

Despite all the moves to Aluminum heads, Cast Iron heads result in a more efficient engine. You can get a set of modified Vortec's at a very good price from PACE Chevrolet. Also the Vortecs are more than capable of making BIG power.
I am considering the Ramjet to replace my current setup; SDPC lower, Ported SLP runnerns, Ported plenum and 52 mm TB. You can get the Ramjet intake for under $500. I'm trying to determine what else I would need other than fuel rails.

JFYI, I was just looking at the RamJet option, and found these individual part numbers if you dont want the whole kit listed above. These prices are all taken from www.GMPartsDirect.com. which I found to be cheaper if all you want are individual parts.
Intake (PN 12489371) : $387
Throttle Body (PN 17096144) : $209
Fuel Rails (PN 12553918) : $292
Injectors (PN 17124248) : $64
Fuel Pressure Regulator (PN 17123897) : $61
Theres some other parts which include Distributor, Coil, Ignition Wiring Assembly, and Map Sensor which I didnt list simply becuase you probably dont need these (should already have them) but if you do need them you can get the part numbers from here.

Ya, I noticed the injectors were high priced, just throwing out the PN though.
As for the TB, I have no idea about that. Is that a 'standard' truck TB?

The Pro Topline Vortec heads are a very nice way to go also. Same money as GM stockers, and they'll flow more right out of the box. They' re cast as though you did a full bowl job on the stock GM vortecs. - My roomate has a set for his v8 S-10.

But unless you are really concerned about the weight I woudn't spend the extra cash on the alluminum. That's just me though.
