sandblasting wheels

i saw a bmw yesterday with bbs wheels. they were the natural aluminum finish. it looks almost white with a slight silver tint; completely non-shiny.

years ago, i had an intake and valve covers sandblasted and they looked that way. when i clear-coated them, however, they darkened up considerably.

can you just leave it natural? is there another way to get that finish?

In one of my Car Craft mags, the editors took an old Smokey Yunik aluminum intake and blasted it. Afterwards, they used I think it was Eagle One wheels cleaner. Anyway it had a high acid content. Once they cleaned the intake with that, it turned a milky white color. They too wanted a natural finish. They ended up clear coating it, but they added a slight grey pigment to it to change the whitish color to a more natural aluminum color. To make it short, it would take some inginuity to clear coat it, and keep it still the natural color. You are probably better off just using some clear. I am wanting to have my wheels blasted, and just coat them in clear.

I had my turbo wheels sandblasted and they came out a flat, grainy almost white color. I powder coated them silver and then clear and they look like brand new rims.

I you do sandblast, you will have to paint them to look decent.
