alternator bearing overheating
Hey All,
I have a 91z28 w/the 350 and I have a problem w/the rear alternator bearing overheating. So i ordered the iceberg kit # nqs-d1-7130 and got ready to install it and noticed that the bearing supplied was the same exact brand/size as what was already in the alternator! Its a ntn 62000LNA! According to the website www.alternatorparts.com its supposed to be a 10mm bearing unlike the stock 8mm! So i'm curious if any of you got the same kit as me and what bearing came in it? Its the CS130 alternator. Does anybody know of a good brand name bearing i can replace the NTN with? I don't want to put it together w/the same 3mile island meltdown bearing lol!

Dan, I have had the same Iceberg kit in my 92 Camaro for about 3 years now, and your right, the kit said it came with a bigger bearing but it had the same bearing that came stock in the alternator, but I went ahead and installed it anyway because I had not had any trouble from the bearing, it lasted over 100,000 miles, but my problem was the excess heat fried out the diodes 4 times in the same time, I have not had any trouble out of it since either, if your bearings are going out that much I would think something might be misaligned or bent but I don't know, you could also check and see if you can buy a higher quality bearing in the same size from a industrial supply company.
