F-body Discontinued? Maybe not.
I recently read in a Road and Track magazine that Gm said that they dicontinueing production of the Camaros and Firebirds in the plant just in Quebec. Well I talked to the son of an owner of a Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealership, and he let me in on Gm's plans. The Firebird is GONE, but the sports car gap in Pontiacs line will be filled be the new Fiero. As for the Camaro it is taking a leave of absense (to build interest) but the new one will be presented in 2005, 3 years after they get cut. Odd tactics, we will se if they work. Anyone know anything else?

That's strange, the 35th anniversary Camaro is going to be unveiled sometime next month. Seems odd for a leave of absence unless it starts in 2003.
Never heard about any other stuff you mentioned.

I also read in CHP Mag. that they are working on a 5th gen. Camaro. They didn't really give a release date though. I hope it ain't too long. I've seen an artists rendition of it and it looks pretty cool. It has a few caracteristics of a 69, but the overall shape of a Stang. It was an unofficial drawing, so who knows? Could be true, but maybe not.

2002 is the last year for the fourth generation F-Body.
Word out of the GM channels is that the 5thgen will be out 2004-2005 and be based on the new Cadillac "sigma" chassis.
We shall see, alot of speculation at this point, no hard facts.

FEAR NOT!
I heard that the camaro will be discontinued for a while. It will be back.
There is a good chance that the Firebird will still be around while the camaro is on vacation.
The Firebird will compete with the corvette.
Currently the fastest firebird is only "a few clicks slower than the corvette". (as quoted from an article in either road and track or car and driver... cant remember). Who knows what Pontiac will do to improve it?
The reason for the poor sales of these two vehicles is because the insurance is too high. I had my heart set on getting a 2001 Formula... but the insurance for this car is insane. The best quote that I had was 5k a year. And thats with a clean driving record.
In any case... this is why I bought a third gen

I hope they change it...
Its beginning to look like a cross between the sebring, cavelier, and grand am/prix. The rear looks a bit "*****".

Ugh! I've seen about 5 different versions of what the 5th Gen might look like. That one has to be the most generic, uninspired, boring one yet. If they go with that, they may as well redesignate the top-of-the-line Camaro as the zzzzzzzz28.
But if there's one area GM has really goofed on the 4th gen's it's the lack of advertising(which according to Camaro brand managers was deliberate). While Ford runs an add where a female Mustang driver thinks the 'OIL' idiot light means 'apply more suntan lotion', they are selling Mustangs as fast as they can build them. Meanwhile, GM has to shut the F-body factory down on a periodic basis because demand is so low for the 4th gens. I mean seriously, how many people do you know at work or school who can quote the advertised output of the F-bodies LS1(that's if they even know what an LS1 is)? And let's do something about dealership training. I mean the last time I let a dealership mechanic near one of my IROC's, the first thing he asked me is: "That's front-wheel drive, isn't it". And he wasn't playing with me or yanking my chain, he was dead-serious. I countered by asking when was the last time they had a Camaro on their lot? His answer: "Not in the 5 years I've worked here".
