Why Random Tech Cats so Enspensive?
I am getting ready to order some cats for my car most other companies are around $80 each why are the random tech cats more than double the price? Is it because they are stainless? Anyone have any opinions?

IMO you pay for the Random Tech name. Just like you pay for the TPIS, SLP, LPE, ect names. I don't think that their cat out-flows the others by a wide margin. I'm sure it is somewhat better, but probably not $150 better than a Catco or Dynomax.

Car: 88 Monte SS
Engine: Super-rammed L-98 383
Transmission: T-56 6-Speed
Axle/Gears: 8.5" G-BODY G-80 3.73
Go with MORE-FLOW isntead, they are extremely high flowing CATS. Besides, most cats are made by a limited number of companies. MORE-FLOW's and many others are all made by CARSOUND. http://www.car-sound.com
They have anything you will need. I have dual 3" in/out MORE-FLOW 94009 CATS on my 3" X-PIPE setup, they flow and work great .HTH's

I have checked out the Carsound site before and it seems that their cats are made real well and would flow good, but I have seen posts from members that have had a lot of trouble with them. And I remember a story from one of the Moderators here who has a Formula also that has been in High Tech Magazine and his Carsound cats broke apart. I can get Catco for around $60 each for my car and the Random Tech are $200 each I do not mind spending the money if they are that much better that is why I am trying to research all this before I buy. Thanks for all the info. (Raymond)

Random Tech is so expensive because they are the best, test from GMHTP show that it flows twice as much CFMs as a stock cat on a 4th gen and 4th gens are alot more free flowing then our thirdgens which are very restrictive,i have a Catco which i have to install but i think any hi-flow cat is better then the OE junk.

Aren't the Random Tech cats made of stainless steel? That would be another reason why the cost is so much. Maybe I'm wrong though. I have the MOR-FLOw (Carsound) 3 inch on my car and it I havn't had any problems with it.

Well I just ordered a pair of Catco converters from Summit Racing 2.5 inlet and outlet for $120. They are also made from stainless 409 the same as my headers.I see a lot of guys here running them with some nice 1/4 mile times so I think they are good enough. If I had a real tricked out motor then I would probably get the Random Tech converters. Thanks for all the info.
