Viper 790XV or your alarm?

Does anyone have this alarm? The Viper 790XV. I am looking into getting a newer alarm for my car and was looking at this one. Any comments? Also, what is the best price you have found for it? And how much would it cost to get an alarm installed? Circuit City quoted me at $160, atleast! That is a lot of loot for an alarm IMO, but what do i know. Thanks for your time.

160 for the alarm or for the install alone? The 790 is a sweet alarm. What are you looking for in an alarm besides the obvious (going off when they try and steal your ride). I install for a living and have done all kind of alarm installs so just ask. Later Jered

Hey, whats up Jered! They quoted me $160 for the install of that particular alarm. They want $499 for the alarm with install. So that puts the alarm at around $339. It is on Ebay for $280 plus shipping, so i figured if i could find it cheaper and have someone else install it, then i might be able to save a few bucks. And with that saved money, i could upgrade the alarm as well. They also have a Proximity Sensor and a Glass Break Sensor as upgrades. I believe they also have a Range Extender too so that you can be farther away from your car and still be able to know what is possibly going on with it. A kid i work with just got it and it looks pretty imptressive so i just started doing research on it. The best i have found so far is what is on Ebay. What i would want out of an alarm is pretty much summed up in the above as well as this unit i am looking into. I mean, when i saw it in person, it seemed like the Remote really worked. Someone walked by his car and he got activity on his Remote. I like the fact that it is a 2-way remote, it is like having a body guard near your car while you are away. You should be informed as soon as it happens. So far, from what i can tell, it is like one of the top alarms for Viper. I could be mistaken though. Let me know what you think. Thanks again-Bryan

I have it all printed out right here, but it really is too much to list. I would go to ebay motors and type in "Viper 790XV", you will find the system for Buy It Now for $279. They have all of the info listed there. Pretty much everything is there from what i can tell. The info is pretty much the same on all of the web sites i have searched. good luck

To tell you the truth, i really do not know. All of the info i have found does not tell me that. I was impressed b/c i work at Home Depot and nearly every cell phone does not work in there due to the walls and this kids remote worked perfectly. I could ask him the range next time i see him if i do not find the answer myself. I know that they make range extenders so we'll see. Oh yeah, i was quted an avg. of $240 for the install and one guy wanted $340 alone for install, yeah, OK! So i might just go to CC. Later

Whats the 2wss? Is it a system? If i were to get the Viper alarm off of Ebay, with that money saved i could upgrade and spend a little more at Circuit City to have it installed for nearly the same price as if i were to buy it from them. We'll see, i might go a head and do that. All of the places by the way were certified to install Viper alarms too so i think that is the going rate for install on those systems. Talk to you later

Yeah, i checked that when i was there asking about it the other day. As far as i know i will still have a warranty if i bring them my own system. They are also certified by Viper to install them too so i think i am in good shape so far. I spoke to a kid so if i were to double check with a manager it wouldn't be such a bad idea to do so! Thanks for looking out, enjoy your weekend. So, anyone else use this thing? Thanks again-Bryan

Ok, the 790 is a two way system, what that means is that the remote used to activate and control the alarm also acts as a pager to alert you of a zone violation, (ie a door being opened or the shock sensor going off.) The alarm includes the new style ant. the hf unit, this gives you a much greater distance over the other alarms on the market. As for installation on the unit, I work as an installer at Circuit City, and have put in a tone of viper alarms. Install on the unit is warrentied as long as you own the car at any circuit city accross the country, a big plus. The viper alarms come with a lifetime warrenty on the product as long as its installed by a qualified dealer. Other options to consider are the prox (a motion sensor), a glass break sensor and a backup battery. The first is really dependent on how parrinoid you are about your ride, I say this because depending on where you live/park you can end up with a tone of false alarms. The last two the glass break and the back up battery are great investments that will really help with the overall security of your vehicle. Other options include piezo sirens mounted inside the car to add to the annoyance of being inside while the alam is going off. Hope this helps. PM me if you need anyother advice. Later Jered

Thanks Jered. As i was looking for info i came across all of those different upgrades. Believe it or not, i was looking at those three accessories in particular. The proximity sensor, glass break, and back up battery. I'll PM you for some more info. Thanks again for your time-Bryan

alarm

i have a 790 viper system on my 89 iroc. It works good and has a cool "chirp chirp" when u push the button. lol It can be confusing to use thougg if u get the same remote i did. u have to push the button 1 time to lock, 2 to unlock and u can use the silent alarm button on the other side. ???silent alarm?? lol it is a touchy system though. but it keeps the wanna be's off your car

Is it the one with the two way remote? It has the LCD screen on it and had red and blue buttons? Thats the one i'm talking about. Thanks for the info though, just another happy Viper car alarm user. Trust me ,almost every alarm out there is a bit "confusing" at times. They all seem to have minds of their own at one time or another! Later

i have always found that what makes an alarm truely effective is the INSTALL. if the installer is good and does a great job hiding the install (so to speak) then even a cheapy alarm can be very effective. on the other side if the installer is bad, even a really good alarm can be rather inefective due to the installation.

BTW i have a Python 3000ESP and am very happy with it.

Whats the 2wss? Is it a system?
this is the latest from compustar alarms.. it has the longest range of any alarm on the market and has too many features to list here.. I do have one on my car along with a DEI 508d radar sensor and twindows window roll-ups, so if my windows are down and someone even WALKS too close to my car, the windows roll up.. two mile paging range and 1.25 mile transmitting range.. gives you the best peace of mind, even if you are in the mall with thick brick walls, etc... check out the site..
compustar BTW I am also a professional audio and alarm installer and will agree that the install does make a difference..

mine cost me 500 restail and 300 install but worth every penny...

Thanks for that info. Now, who would install that alarm? I did not check the site out thoroughly yet, but can any old shop do it or one that's certified like Viper? Thanks for any additional help 84ws6. Later

I may be in the minority here, but I don't understand how you can botch an install if you do it yourself unless you try to screw it up. I've only installed two alarms, but the first had external relays that had to be installed seperately, and sure it was tough, but all I needed was instructions. It worked fine, even installed a solenoid and attached it to my hatchback (had 82 hatchback Camaro at the time) as well as a solenoid for my gas tank cover which required a latch release. Out of everything I did to that car (alarm install included), the gas cover release was the trickiest.

I'm a scientist by trade, so it can't really be accounted by experience. I just think that if you not only follow the instructions but also understand them, then you should do an adequate job IMHO.
