cam performance question!?!?!?
i am rebuilding my 85 t.a's 305 soon and i wanted to add some power, i was thinking an aftermarket cam and an edelbrock rpm intake manifold and maybe some alluminum heads if i can find them cheap enough. what kind of horsepower can i get from this and what should i look for in a cam. adn my last question where can i get this stuff that wont empty my wallet completely?? i looked in jeggs and i dont really know anythign about cams so if anybody could help me i would apperciate it. thanks alot

Comp 262xe cam perhaps.
I would first get headers and a cat-back. That engine won't breathe too well with out free flowing exhaust.

unless the car is 100% original with very low mileage basically a collector car...why would you rebuild the 305?
go to a junk yard and get a 350, same amount to rebuild as the 305 and the potential for more power.

Don't waste your money rebuilding your 305.
Build a 350 based motor, you'll be much further ahead
and will love the result.
Here is a cam I used to great success in a mild 350.
It doesn't cost a lot.
Woverine blue racer pn#WG1159
specs are 214/224 @.050 .442"/.465" 112 lsa
Has a moderate high vac idle, is good on gas
and performes on the street. can use a stock converter if nessessary.
I've run 13.0's with this cam. You can go fast with it too.
You just have to build a motor around it.
Put your money into cylinder heads, first.

If you stick with the 305 I would just keep the stock aluminum intake that is on it. Save your money. Buy the 305 Torquer heads instead with the extra money. I would go with a smaller cam with about 206 212 intake exhaust duration at .050 with a lift no more than about .435. The reason that you should not go with that XE262 cam is it still is too big for a 305 unless you plan on screaming the motor pretty high and have 4.10 gears.
I have yet to see an aftermarket intake pick a 305 up any at the track. If your dead set on changing intakes I would buy the Wieand 8004 dual plane. It looks nicer than the stock one and it might pick up 2-5 horsepower maybe.

I usually don't race the T/A but I usually drive out there and watch on Thursday's test and tune. I also have 69 Malibu I bracket race sometimes on Saturday but I am planning on running on the next test and tune with the Chevelle. It is brown, with a white vinyl top, with a white interior.
The T/A is the dark metallic blue with the black accenting on the bottom. Also has the black strobe decal on the hood scoop. I have the turbine wheels also. Maybe I will catch you out there.
