Opinions of GM crate motors.

Just wondered who had a GM crate motor and what they thought of it? I am looking at the 350 HO Deluxe. 330HP and 380lbs/ft.

I have the GM Goodwrench, other than the crappy cam I'm happy with it. I've got about 15k miles on it.

Well I'm looking at a 160 HP and 125 torque increase and brand new motor, I can't wait to get one. Glad to here they are reliable. Also happy that I should be able to outrun most other cars around here. Anybody else have one ?

GM crate motors are almost always a good buy in terms of quality. Its the assembly of the motor in the engine that's another matter. So as long as you're safe on that part, any gm crate motor will last you a good while.

Car: GTO
Engine: GM 350HO, 4.6 Overhead cam, 413 Wed

I have the 350HO Base. Very easy instal. This motor has a lot of untapped potential. The cam is just right- a little lumpy at iddle but no so bad as to mess with my computer. I chose the Base because I did'nt need the electronics and induction. Just used all the parts off my LO3.

Hey AdmiralNahohkta!!!!!

I was interested in purchasing a 350HO from GM. Does anybody know if the TPI from an 1986 IROC will work on this engine? I know I'll need a new manifold for the vortec heads. The information on the 350HO says that the engine is not recommended for computer controlled vehicles. Why is this???

i love my 350HO 330 horsepower and 380 torque will put most cars in the 13's with gears and stall. i put hedman ceramic coated shorty headers on it, a performer intake and carb, msd pro billet distributor and blaster 2 coil bolted to a turbo 350. i plan on 4.11's or 3.73's with a 3000 stall so i can get you guys 1/4 times sometime real soon.

SOme of the best crates out there. MOst other crates are made from thes engines. You will see alot of crates have teh ZZ4 bottom-end. Even the 502 has been used for some engines.

the zz4 doesnt come as complete as the 350HO deluxe. however if it were me i would get the zz4 if i had 3500 in my budget for a crate motor, however 2200 for the 350HO was most appealing to me. as i saw it and still see it, for the price difference between the 350HO non deluxe and the zz4 i could make a motor that made a lot more than 355 horsepower for about the same price. the 350HO really just needs a good cam and more compression to wake it up some (car craft got 440 horsepower and 450 torque with a 10:1 vortec headed, comp xe274 cammed 350). i actually just started my car yesterday with the 350HO, i like how it sounds with open headers we'll see if i will be able to stand how single exhaust sounds on it tho

how much do those heads go for? and thats the vortec design to eh? so new intake will be required..

well the fast burn 385, is a zz4 short block with the fast burn heads, thats it... so yes, zz4-355hp, bolt on the fast burn 385 - you get 385 hp!
