A/F meters? are they really any good?

They don't use an O2 sensor, they use a gas spectrometer. O2 sensor on ly measures O2. Gas spectometer measures a variety of gases (depending on it's setup), that is why they measure your HC, CO and NOx.

As for WB O2 sensors, Honda is using one on it's low emissions vehicle and probably more will in the future. While we use a WB O2 sensor for accurate A/F ratios in the 11-13.5:1 range, a WB also provides accurate A/F ratios in the "super lean" area like 16-18:1.

But, as to why they were not used earlier on our cars, the answer is simple. Cost.

I will answer a question with a question, how can an O2 sensor measure HC, CO and NOx? They only measure O2.

I have heard that when the guage bounces back and forth between extreme rich and extreme lean that you are near 14.7 as accurately measurable by a factory o2 sensor and guage. Is correct?
