Question about K&N and summit . . .

Question about K&N and summit . . .

I'd like to get a chrome 14X3" open element from summit. I do not want a drop base and I plan on putting this on my 305 TBI. From what I hear I should have no trouble. In the magazine, they do not have a non drop base listed but I went to K&N's site and found P/N KNN-60-1264. I use this at summit and it says K&N CUSTOM ASSEMBLY $70.95. That's great and all but how do I know for sure that's what I want? After all, they have two different numbers for a drop base 14X3 (KNN-60-1430, and KNN-60-1280). I just would like someone to reassure me that that is the right number. From everything I hear, it should have no trouble clearing the distributor if I take the spacer ring off. Also, does anyone think I could get this setup cheaper through autozone, or pepboys, or oreilly? I don't think we have advanced auto parts down here. Thanks

Why don't you just call Summit and ask them?

Good point. I don't know why I didn't do that yet. I guess I just trust the opinions and advise of people on this board over them.

don't get the K&N setup summit has a generic off the shelf chrome air cleaner with an element for 40 bucks that comes with an exact copy of a K&N filter. As a matter of fact the company was sued by K&N for patent infringment. I had one on my RS and i just put one on a freind's car. it looks great it has a plane chrome lid but it works fine and flows 10 times more than that engine will ever use. you are going to need to buy a strait stud to go in the throttle body and abreather filter to go in the valve cover. i got the K&N valve cover breather for my stock valve cover it looked great. get the hei offset base filter.

Interesting side note, I just ordered one of the Summit K&N-copies in 14x3 and a actual K&N Xstream air flow lid. I cannot tell any difference at all between the elements. Same exact shade, everything to the eye appears identical, in fact I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't actually the same filter material. The Summit 14x3 element was half price of the K&N one, great buy... Oh yeah, I only bought the filters for my current drop base, not the Summit filter assembly so I can't comment on that...

Where do i go to get the straight stud for the TBI i just got a K&N 14X3 W/ the 1/4 drop i hope it clears the coil i don't think i can get in there to move it if it hits the coil:CONFUSED:

So summit sells fake K&N chrome open elements??? I don't want a fake one. Is the one on (or near) page 78 a real K&N setup? I've looked at a bunch of different chrome open elements and I just think that this one looks the best.

Actually, some of the facts need to be cleared up. K&N was actually sued for patent infringment. I know because the guy who came up with the design lives in Tucson and has had the lid on his car for 4 yrs. If you guys remember about a year ago K&N came out with the lid and it had a crome ring around it. I only remember seeing that "X-treme" lid for 2 months and then it was pulled. Now a year later they come out with it again, looks like some body settled out of court. Any ways, I just wanted to express my thougths and didn't mean to insult anybody if I did. LOL!!!!!

Go with the K&N it is a much nicer looking cleaner Get the 60-1430 K&N that has a 1/4 inch drop and it clears the coil it fits perfetly and make the car sound great @ WOT
