Get the Autoxray, they cost about 170 $ new for the EZ-link. The older ones you can get much cheaper used. But then you cant link it to the computer and do upgrades and data transmissions. You could also try to find one on Ebay.

Got my Autoxray 240 i think was the model number. It scans GM, ford and Chrysler. Got it for $140 off ebay with a nice carrying case. the only thing I wish it had was backlit display, which I think the newer ones in Summit do have.

Tells you a lot of good info. 02sensor voltage, tps sensor, fuel pumpv, battery v,02 crosscounts

Maybe a laptop is a route you may want to consider. That way it will be useful for other things as well as car tuning. Not to mention you can view all of the parameters at once instead of having to scroll through them with a scantool. Just a thought.............

I would say that if you wish to get into eprom burning, then a computer based scan tool is the way to go as it will capture an unlimited amount of information that can be "sorted/diced/sliced" to help in optimizing your eprom. I use Diacom Plus myself and I am very happy with it. It is pricey, but for what I use it for, I feel I have gotten my money's worth out of it. I wouldn't give it back if Rinda offered to refund my money back.

If you just want to be able to scan the engine for its vital statistics and have no intention of ever getting into eprom burning, then a handheld like Auto X-ray is just fine. The Auto X-ray will capture a limited amount of information which is fine for drag racing or recording a "troublesome situation". However, as I understand, the Auto X-ray is limited in the amount of data it can capture before you have to dump it to a computer.

With Diacom, you just save the data right onto the computer's harddrive and continue capturing data. I also like the fact that I don't have to constantly watch it while I am driving, a potentially dangerous thing to do.

The nice thing about Diacom is that it is DOS based so it runs on older laptops like 286/386/486, which are dirt cheap to buy. I actually picked up a cheap 486 notebook just for my Diacom (and eprom burning) as I don't care if the 486 gets swiped. I would be pissed if my expensive notebook got ripped off.

Glenn,

I am considering the purchase of a Diacom unit, myself, mainly for PROM tuning, but I wish I could try one first. Or see someone use one, anyway.

Any other pros/cons you can mention? Are they about $500??? Does it work ok w/7747 ECU's? Does it come with a cable?
