summits got flowtech and y-pipes
I just got my new summit book and found the flowteck headers and y-pipe for our camaros. headers #big-11102 for $84.95 and the y-pipe #big-11102y. for $89.95.
What does everyone think about these. Do you think These would be a good setup. comparied to hedman, or hookers.

My friend got Flowtechs for his '77 Camaro, (long tubes) they looked like a blind man put them together. Huge welds, a crappy protective pain coat on them, etc. Spend the extra cash for some hooker or headman shorties, it will be worth it.

I'll have to disagree, bitchin. Mine have done me know wrong, also the welds and the coating looked and still look fine. Here is a link with multiple picks and more info:

I wouldn't feel good comparing them to some ceramic coated SLP's, but at half the cost they're a nice alternative.

I don't know they seem like a good deal $327 from summit coated vs edelbrocks which after you buy the header and have it coated it will be $450+, I wonder how much worse they really are and if it's worth $125 for the added performance from the TES. i'd like to hear your opinions. Does 1/8 of an inch make that much of a difference?

My Flowtechs are excellent quality. The welds look no different from an edelbrock and the ceramic on it has resisted the heat just fine. Im very happy with them. The only real downside to these headers is that they are a little bit on the small side (1 1/2 primaries)

According to a mag test header shootout from not too far back, 1.5" primary (think it was dynomax) headers tested #1 on a 400ish hp engine unless I'm mistaken. The smaller primary headers in the test consistently did well compared to the bigger primary size headers. The whole hp range was extremely close on all tested sets anyway, so it's not like you'll notice one way or the other at the track or the butt dyno... Quite interesting, it's contrary to what general gear-head talk/advice would indicate. I don't think I buy into this "gotta have SLP 1 3/4s" thing...
Anyone happen to know of that article, and remember which mag and what issue that it was in? I've most likely still got it somewhere in my mountain of back issues, If I can find it I'll scan it and put it up on the net...

i remember reading something abiut that and one person on the boards suggeste that the reason they were so close was because it was done with open headers i don't know if this had an effect or not but that was suggested

anyone else have these headers want to comment?
I am seriously thinking about them.
1. I'm a student don't have a lot of cash.
2. understand I need to change to headers for better performance
3. refuse to pay $1 000 Canadian (I work for just above min. wage) to get 10-15 more hp in my car... that is just way too much money i'm sorry.

I have the flowtechs and have had no problems aside from the normal header leaks. I got mine for $79 rather than paying $300+ for Edelbrocks or SLP....headers are headers man.....how much of a technological edge can one company have over another when it comes to 4 pieces of pipe welded together?

I was thinking these things were 1.5" primaries with a 3" y-pipe. Turns out it's with a 2.5" y-pipe. That's pretty weak...

would these headers be OK for a LG4 that i will only modify to the tune of low 14s to high 13s? if so, that would be great and ill order them tomorrow

The flowtech headers are fine. I, and others have run them on 500+hp applications with absolutely no exhaust flow problems.
For the money (under 200.00) I think they are worth it. I wouldn't touch the TES headers, and I think SLP is too expencive for what they're worth.
The jet coating would prolly be a good idea. My headers still have the original finish, but they're wrapped. The y-pipe burnt off the finish immediately.

If emmisions apply to your car, then you'd prolly want to go with those..
You could also buy a high-flow cat that takes O2 and re-plumb your car but it doesn't sound like you wanna go that route.
Its up to you.. I'm not worried about emmisions, **** the system!
