Fastchips good?
The stock chip in my 91 formula 5.7L went bad so I figured I might as well by a performance chip since im buying right? I read good things about the Fastchips from Ed Wright automotive. I couldn't afford a custom one and I probably don't need it right now anyway since my car is pretty close to stock, so I ordered the standard one for a '91 350CID TPI. It turns out you need part of the stuff on the old memcal thingy and plug in the old one to the new one and use them both. I barely got the thing physically in the ECM with the old memcal hanging off ths ide of the new connector and chip, but I did, and its working.
Im not doing wheelstands yet but it feels good and Im taking it to a 1/8 mile track this weekend where I ran before. What experience do you have with these chips and what kind of improvement should I see? I ran about 2.18 60', and 9.4 something at 75mph in the 1/8th before. Other than the chip I have added a new MSD Blaster GM coil, MSD distributor cap and rotor, new NGK plugs, set the timing to 8 btdc.

I have a custom chip from Ed Wright.Unfortunately, I can't give you before and after numbers, mainly because I changed the motor and a bunch of other things at the same time.I can, however, tell you that I'm a very satisfied customer. I went from a 305 RS with TBI, stock except for the air cleaner and muffler,to a crate 350 with Crane Compucam 2030, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Ported throttle body and AFPR from Turbo City,SLP Headers and Y-Pipe,3" Cat, 3" Flowmaster Cat-Back.
The difference therefore, is much more than just the chip, but he
burned a custom chip that works great for my combination.
I went from a 215,000 mile 170 HP 305 to about 310 Flywheel HP.
It's also a 5 Speed.
I'll post real numbers when I get them, probably be a month or so.
I doubt if this really answers your question, but I feel that Ed Wright is the next best thing to burning your own custom chip.

Yeah, it looks like you made a few other MINOR changes, haha. I didnt' get the custom chip, I got the standard one, but for my relatively stock engine I don't think it matters. The price was 159 compared to 350, which does make a big difference.
