I have a 1988 Camaro 305 TBI

I brought a Moroso starter motor heat shield (#74300) to help with my hot starting problem, I took out the starter and cleaned all the connections and tried to figure out how to fit the heat shield. However, it appears not to fit.
Does anyone know if this is the correct shield for my model year, or if I should modify the one I have to fit?

Also I would appreciate it if anyone could put up any pictures of a heat shield when it is installed on the engine so I get an idea of how to fit it. Thanks.

For some reason the Heat Shields for the starter will not fit on 3rd Gen. I quit trying to make one fit and bought a Mini-starter to cure the heat sink problem.

I fit a Summit stainless heat shield on my starter. It had to be slightly ground in order to fit, but I think that was more of an issue with the reman. starter than the car itself. This particular shield slipped over one of the screws holding the solenoid on and is bolted to the starter with one of the starter's throughbolts.

I also edged the shield with some rubber hose which I split down one side so that it wouldn't rub or cut through any wiring should any decide to come to rest on it.

I put the same heat shield on my camaro, I too had to modify the shield to get it to fit right and I am still using the stock starter. It took about 15 minutes to get it shaved down and ground off to fit, no biggie.

Because no heat shield you buy is going to fit right out of the box, each car is different and will need minor tweaks to fit just right. And I don't think the $18 price is expensive in the least.

If you look close you can see that I also have a wrap on the starter. That sucker's not getting hot this time!

Why don't you just get a remote mount solenoid kit? Cured my hotstart problem 100%.... Mine was a MrGasket kit that was like $30 from a local place.

I tried wrap and shields , but after a while the starter failed again. I used the remote with no problems for a few years now.
