since I'm not going to put a cage in the bunny, I guess I'll be too fast at the track to run without the cage and therefore am not able to race anybody else....because I'm too fast to run without a cage

NHRA rule

That role should be revised to read all t-top cars running in competition would need to have a roll bar.

This will just cause more street racing because all LS1 cars in basically stock form with t-tops can.t run at the local tracks anymore
Somebody needs to get a movement on to alert NHRA that this is a bad move!

Here is an e-mail address for the divsion 7 director
cneilson@nhra.com
We need to unindate this guys mail box with protests.

Don't have a clue as to what Carlsbad will do, but you can bet they will enforce it at Fontana.
Probably a insurance requirement which means NHRA cannot consider deleting the new rule.
Gotta love lawyers and insurance companies.

quote from a guy on corvetteforum.com:
I just got off the phone with John Miller Tech Service Rep for NHRA National Headquarters , in Glendora Cal. and he stated
" At this time there is no change to the glass/t-top rules, they will be considered a coupe and require a roll bar at 11.99, same as in the past"
He did tell me this was discussed at this past Tuesday rules meeting but no changes will be made now or in the near future.
So everyone relax, it's business as usual.
And a reply from somebody else:
You are correct. THIS IS NOT A NEW NHRA RULE!!! Ths was enforced at a track in Houston recently though (HRP) HRP was enforcing that t top cars running faster than 14.0 must have a roll cage. This was not a NHRA rule, they were enforcing this FOR THEIR OWN INSURANCE REASONS. Please do not get paranoid, unless you race at HRP you have nothing to worry about...

Appearently T-Tops cars are supposed to run down the track with the tops removed, according to NHRA's 'informal policy'. Under these circumstances, removable top vehicles are classified under the convertible status. Luckily for 4th gen F-bodies, the structure of the T-Top car and hardtops is one in the same ... that leaves the fact that T-Top vehicles can be as safe as hardtop, while retaining their removable tops. Hopefully NHRA knows how to use common sense.

More usefull reading ...

T-Top lock suggestion

If this rule is enforced with rollbar requirements for T-Tops cars running 13.99 or quicker ... my SS will be removed from drag racing duties and set back to stock. Heck, we might be in the market for a hardtop A4 Z28 then.

Not really ... only if you plan on running with your tops off or if the track you run in requires you to remove them ... for the moment.

Nah. It just means you'll have to go back to making left and right turns.
