my equal length long tubes with no ground clearance problems
Here are a couple of pics of the headers that I finished building yestrday. They are 1 3/4" x 36" long, with 3" collectors. They are equal length with a variance of no more than 1/2". They have 3/8" thick flanges. The spark plug access is great and there are no plug wires closer than 1" from any pipes. In short I took all the things that I hated about headers that I have had or messed with in the past and eliminated them. I hope to have the y pipe finished sunday than I'll get some on car pics. Oh yeah they go on an off easier than the slp headers I had on my car before. I'm stoked that they are finally done I've been working on them for over a month.Just thought I'd share.
Thanks for looking.

Yep.
I tig weld stainless hoses all day, it was a nice change of pace to do something different. It took me about 5 weeks to finish them. Most of that time was trying to figure out pipe routing. I fired the car up tonight and was pleased to see that the headers dont rub anywhere when the motor is running. I hope to finish the y pipe this weekend so I can drive it.

I'll post some installed pics sunday. I installed the drivers side header this afternoon. It went on completely in about 45 minutes.

Here are a couple of on the car pics. I haven't worked on the y pipe yet. I'm waiting until dark when it should be a little cooler in the garage.

Yeah a cowl hood would do wonders, although I doubt that with a Jet-Hot coating that it'd get the hood much hotter than a regular uncoated header(lower in the engine bay).

I can touch my coated hookers about 10-15 minutes after shut down, not 2.
I've run a ton of different headers and engine combos. coating is nice to keep the headers from rusting, but as far as a thermal barrier I think it's a load of crap.

well, i haven't run any EGT tests on them, though i wouldn't have thought the EGT would be any less with coating, the fire in the engine is still coming out just as hot. and i really could touch the headers in less than 5mins. from shutdown. 2 mins. may have been a bit of an exageration, but not much...coating is nice though, even if the temps deal is a load of crock.

I just put long tubes on my car and noticed a significant drop in the temp of the headers, and the engine bay. I used to think coating was a load of crap, until I ordered mine already coated. I won't go back to uncoated headers unless they are a freebie!!!

I just read some old super chevy where they are using one of those lazer temperature readers that guys use at the track sometimes. The coated header was almost 100 dergees cooler on the outside. They had the pics of the temp gun, and the cated and non coated. Pretty hard evidence to deny if you ask me. I am really hoping that my coated hookers keep me cool

Wow, good work!! once again a TGO member has created something that the aftermarket has failed to produce.. If you wanted you could make some $ selling those, like others have on the board with different items..though I am guessing it was a one of high effort deal

I may be intrested in building some headers in the future. I don't know what guys are willing to pay for a set though. parts alone were around 375 dollars.
I hope to have dyno numbers and track times soon. Then I will seriously think about prices on more sets.

nice work on building the headers.
why did you build them up in the engine bay?
i see you have orange heat shield material on one line.
seems running them in the bay would make it harder to work on the car, IMO.
did you notice any gains from the equal length?

I ran them in the engine bay because I wanted the ground clearance. As far as being hard to work on, I can get at the plugs and wires easy. and the valve covers still come off as easy as before. I don't know about performance yet. My parts for the y pipe came in thursday. I have 2 welds to finish and the y pipe will be done. I plan on driving the car this afternoon.

that looks cool but u are going to melt melt your master cylinder reservoir or at the very least BOIL your brake fluid with the lines that close. passenger side looks cool.

I got some heat wrap from summit. I put it on the master cylinder and brake lines. I put 60 miles on it this weekend with no problems.

The y pipe I ended up with didn't meet my standards. I am in the process of ordering more bends and redoing the y and the whole cat back. I should be able to get it on a lift and some good pics of it in a few weeks. I am redoing the catback so the whole exhaust is tighter up against the body. The way it is the headers are tucked good but the catback hangs lower than I would like.
I'll post pics as soon as I'm done. I will hopefully have some dyno numbers as well.
Thanks for the interest.
