eDIST Distributorless Ignition System and $58??

can i make the eDIST work with a $58 code 730?? what needs to be done to make it work?

i think i may have found a potential deal, and for only a lil more then a MSD box, i can have the most of the parts to make a eDIST based LS1 coil on plug system...

but i donno if the signals and stuff will work between the edist and the 730 (or 749) ECM...

You need a cam synch signal and a distributor pulse.

I've heard the newer eDists aren't as versatile as the earlier ones. You might want to get the part no and check with FAST about if it will work as you want it too.

its Monty Williams's old setup...

FAST eDIST (LS1 Direct Fit)- PN: 30-5001

the other parts are:

MSD distributor plug w/ cam synch - PN: 8514,
8 AC Delco LS1 Ignition Coils - PN: 12558948,
2 GM LS1 Coil Harnesses - PN: 15301401.

ok, i am now under the impression that NOONE has managed to run the eDIST/LS1 coil pack combo without the F.A.S.T. setup or DFI....

does anyone know someone who is running it with a GM ECM???

id really like to go this route instead of a MSD box, but if its not going to work, id rather not waste my money.

Not quite sure which direction you are going with the question. I personally know of two people running LS1 coils on GM ECM's using the eDIST. By summer there will be a person running the LS1 coils with a GM-ECM w/o an eDIST. That will require additional hardware to sequence the coils, just like the eDIST.

how are they doing it? according to grumpy, i need a cam synch signal and a distributor pulse... are thoes sent out from the eDIST in a GM ECM compatable way?

this is what i was looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EBWA%3AIT&rd=1

One app already had the cam sensor, in the other app it was added to the distributor. It was salvaged from another distributor application that uses a cam sensor.

The DRP can be picked up from the current igniton module. Use the coil - as the reference pulse to the eDIST. May want to just give Baily a call (I don't think I spelled his name correctly).

A Vortec truck engine timing chain cover has both cam & crank sensors (again, I think that is the correct app).

mmk.. now this stuff im looking at now, it has a "MSD distributor plug w/ cam synch" in it..... looking around all i could find is its a hall effect one.....

can a hall effect cam signal and the tach output on the eDIST (im assuming there is one) work as the synch signal and a distributor pulse???

I have been running it for about a year and a half.
In my application, I have a cam synch in oem form.

Also, know another guy running it with a 730.
Like I said, thou, you have to have a cam sych signal.

how are you getting a cam sych signal?

the Cam Sync Distributor Plug has a hall effect signal.... will the ECM accept that? if not is there some kind of real time converter i can use to change the signal to somthing acceptable?

Like I said in my application in oem form there is a cam synch.

It's the eDist that needs the cam synch, the 730 ecm will never see it.

In stock form the rotor, and cap organise which plug to fire. The ecm does all the same timing calculations weither distributor or DIS, or CNP. But, when you have different coils to fire the eDist needs to fire out how to fire them in the right order.

There's also a thread running in the aftermarket ecm board about what a guy ran into doing this.
